Klec lies in a quiet part of the Třeboňsko Protected Landscape Area. The destination can be understood through three themes: the South Bohemian pond landscape, marked trails and medieval history. When choosing where to go, the key question is whether you would rather focus on the bodies of water, a particular route or traces of the past.

Pond Landscape Around Klec

The Nadějská pond group is a South Bohemian landscape in the Třeboňsko Protected Landscape Area and consists of 15 fish-breeding ponds of various sizes. Paved paths run along the dikes between the ponds. Two extensive ponds, including Potěšil, lie south of Klec. This brings two different scales into focus: the pond group of 15 bodies of water and the two extensive ponds south of the village. If you are focusing on the landscape, you can consider the dikes as a recurring feature of the routes; for orientation, Potěšil is a specific named pond south of Klec.

Marked Trails and Landmarks

A red-marked trail runs from Třeboň through Klec and continues to the Nadějská pond group. At the edge of the village, it turns left by U Penzionu U Kačerů and follows the dikes of the Víra and Naděje ponds to the Naděje trail signpost. The route then follows the dikes of the Překvapil, Nový and Krajina ponds, passes the hamlet of U Nohavů and continues to the railway station in Vlkov. The waypoints mark different stages: the Naděje signpost marks the end of the section at the edge of the village, while U Nohavů and the railway station are other named points along the continuation. Check trail markings and maintenance conditions before your hike.

Castle Site and Village Monument

The castle is about 1.5 kilometres from the village of Klec. Oldřich z Ústí had it built between approximately 1395 and 1410; it is sometimes also referred to as a fortress. In 1435, the castle was captured and burned down by the troops of Oldřich z Rožmberku. The only features that remain today are rises in the terrain in the form of ramparts and ditches, along with a small fragment of wall. The chronology is clear, although the construction date can only be given approximately: construction was followed by the capture and burning of the castle in 1435. In the village itself stands the Chapel of St John of Nepomuk, a small monument of local significance. The castle site is outside Klec, while the chapel is in the village, marking different scales of local history.

Getting There and Choosing a Destination

Rybník Klec pond can be reached via Road No. 148 from Lomnice nad Lužnicí towards Novosedly nad Nežárkou. This road leads to a specific pond; by contrast, the red-marked hiking route through Klec follows paths over several pond dikes and continues to the railway station in Vlkov. For your planning, this means distinguishing between getting to a single body of water and following a route through the pond landscape. If you are looking for a hotel in Klec, compare the location of the specific property with your plans for your stay.
