Hatín can be explored through a range of interests, with cultural history, bodies of water and cycling each offering a different focus. The landscape around Hatín is shaped by bodies of water, meadows and forests, providing a habitat for a wide variety of animals. Historic buildings and waterscapes sit alongside a signposted cycling route with a clearly stated distance and duration. If you are looking for a hotel in Hatín, you can first decide whether cultural history, the river landscape or a cycling trip will be the main focus of your stay.

Cultural History in Jemčina and Stajka

Jemčina Hunting Lodge is a protected cultural monument. In 1702, Prokop Vojtěch decided to establish a game preserve near Jemčina and build a hunting lodge there for summer stays and the hunting season. The combination of a game preserve, hunting lodge and seasonal purpose shows that the plan envisaged not just a building, but an estate designed for hunting and summer stays.

The Chapel of St. Wenceslas in Stajka was restored in 2025 as part of a project focused on small-scale sacred architecture. The exterior and interior plasterwork was repaired, and damaged benches and the altar were restored. Jemčina represents the history of a planned hunting lodge, while Stajka is an example of the more recent restoration of a chapel.

Bodies of Water and Landscape

Holná in the Jemčina Woods covers 244 hectares and is one of the oldest artificial hydraulic structures in Bohemia. The area gives a sense of its scale, while its historical classification points to the long history of this water structure. Different features stand out along the Nežárka. Below the Jemčina weir, the river flows between higher banks, some of which have been regulated. Broad meadows line the river, with extensive woodland farther away. Unlike at Holná, the landscape here is shaped by the form of the riverbanks and the sequence of meadows and more distant forests.

Planning a Cycling Route and River Trip

The signposted “Po stopách Emy Destinové” cycling route passes through Jemčina and Hatín. It is 41 km long, takes an estimated 3 to 4 hours, and is classified as easy. The distance, duration and rating indicate the route’s length, the time required and its stated level of difficulty. By linking the two places, the route offers a practical option if you would like to include Jemčina and Hatín in your cycling plans.

At the Jemčina weir on the Nežárka, boats can be portaged on either bank. Conditions can vary depending on the water level, so it is worth taking the level into account when planning a specific river trip. This is a different consideration from the cycling route: its 41 km distance and 3 to 4 hours provide a time frame, while the water level matters at the weir.
