Clunek lies in Česká Kanada Nature Park. Forests and ponds shape the surrounding landscape, complemented by a marked cycle tourism route and historic buildings. For travelers, this makes for a clear mix of protected waterscapes, cycling and local architectural heritage. Those with a particular interest in the landscape or the history of the buildings will find different points of interest here.

Natural Monument and Ponds

In the area around Clunek, within Česká Kanada Nature Park, lies the Krvavý a Kačležský rybník National Nature Monument. Its core includes the Krvavý Pond, covering 127 ha, and Kačležský Pond, covering 176 ha; Kačležský is therefore 49 ha larger. Extensive, significant stands of reeds along the shores, as well as adjacent wet and peat meadows, are also part of the monument. The natural monument also protects natural wetland forests and transitional mires. The water bodies are therefore only one part of the protected area; shore and mire habitats are also part of its character.

Clear rules apply within the national nature monument: fires may not be lit without the consent of the nature conservation authority, and nesting birds in the shoreline vegetation must not be disturbed. Also follow local signs when visiting.

Swimming is possible at Klikovský Pond. Check access and swimming conditions on site before planning a swimming stop.

Cycling Route Through the Surrounding Area

A marked cycle tourism route runs through the area around Clunek and continues via Kaproun to Zvůle. This provides both the route through the surrounding area and two named places to use when planning your own route. Cycling is thus a distinct highlight alongside the protected pond landscape and historic buildings. As route conditions can change, check the current route before setting out.

Church and Local Architectural History

The Church of St John of Nepomuk in Clunek is a Baroque pilgrimage church dating from 1787. It was built on the site of a chapel dedicated to the Fourteen Holy Helpers, erected in 1705. The dates mark two phases of construction: 1705 refers to the predecessor chapel, and 1787 to the pilgrimage church. The church stands on the crest of a small hill and can be reached from the west across an open area. Its location and chronology give the building a clear historical context.

Evidence of the local architectural history has also been preserved beyond the church. Clunek has valuable examples of vernacular architecture; house No. 42 is an example of this style from the first half of the 19th century. Farmsteads Nos. 61 and 62 are also among the valuable surviving buildings. Rural Baroque architecture is also mentioned in connection with vernacular architecture, with the date 1823. The chapel in Lomy is a local historic cultural monument belonging to the municipality of Clunek. The buildings mentioned thus offer different perspectives, bringing sacred history and rural architecture side by side.
