If you are considering nature and architectural history as distinct focuses for your stay, Lomnice Nad Lužnicí offers several specific points of interest. The Velký a Malý Tisý National Nature Reserve is located nearby, south of Lomnice Nad Lužnicí. Open water and adjacent wetland vegetation form a mosaic there. Other highlights include the Velký Lomnický educational trail, ponds with their own themes, and historic buildings. You can tailor your trip to your particular interests, whether landscape and plant life, a clearly defined route, or local history.

Natural areas, ponds and educational trail

Lomnický velký rybník is also botanically noteworthy: it is considered one of the most important sites in the Třeboňsko region for the slender mudwort (Coleanthus subtilis). The species occurs there regularly and in large numbers, covering an area of up to 1 ha. These two natural highlights differ: Velký a Malý Tisý is characterized by open water and wetland vegetation, while Lomnický velký rybník is associated with a specific, named plant species.

The Velký Lomnický educational trail is 6.5 km long and has 15 stations. Its first station is on Zámecká Street, in the car park by Farská louka. Its length and starting point offer two different reference points: the extent of the trail and the location of its first station. You can include it as a separate activity in your plans and distinguish its details from other nature and history topics.

Fishing is permitted at Peřinka Pond for people who have obtained a permit. The fishing season runs from April to October. If you want to fish there, check the current permits and dates before your visit. Both the seasonal window and the permit requirement should be taken into account.

Churches and architectural history

Kostel sv. Václava was founded in 1359 by Vilém ml. z Landštejna, originally as a castle chapel dedicated to Corpus Christi and Saints Peter and Paul. The Gothic vault also dates from the building’s construction in 1359. The interior’s defining feature is an early Baroque altar with four figures of saints on its sides, from the workshop of Jan Martin Schwarzmaier, a woodworker and woodcarver from České Budějovice, dating to around 1658. The vault and altar thus represent different periods: the church’s foundation and vault date back to 1359, while the altar belongs to the later early Baroque furnishings.

At Kostel sv. Jana Křtitele, the history of the site predates both the founding of the town and the construction of the castle: an older sanctuary already stood there. The massive tower on the south side was probably built around the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries and is considered a typical Late Gothic work of the Rosenberg building workshop. At the main altar is a painting of Saint John the Baptist by Josef Peške of Lovosice, created in 1838. The older sanctuary, the probably Late Gothic tower and the dated painting offer different points in time to consider when exploring the church.

Stará radnice (Old Town Hall) is also part of the historic townscape: it was built before 1604 and is listed as an immovable cultural monument. Alongside the churches, the town hall provides another distinct point of reference for the architectural history of Lomnice Nad Lužnicí.
