Lodhéřov offers two distinct focal points for planning a trip: the Čertův kámen nature trail and a local history that can be explored through the church, the rectory, the nativity scene, and smaller monuments. If you are looking for a hotel in Lodhéřov, these themes may shape your decision: Would you like to include a hike in your stay, or are you more interested in the town’s historical development? The nature trail and historical landmarks provide a concrete point of reference for both interests.

Landscape and Hiking

Lodhéřov stretches along the Ženský potok. Čertův kámen is the highest hill above Lodhéřov; its summit is at 659 m. The stream and the high point offer different landscape features: one runs alongside the town, while the other rises above it.

The Čertův kámen nature trail connects Lodhéřov and Kostelní Radouň and is 4.5 km long. It has nine information boards and five sports and play stations. The nature trail’s terrain is suitable for hikes by people of all ages. The boards focus on information, while the sports and play stations offer an additional activity. This makes it possible to assess the route both by its exact length and by the different features along the trail.

Church and Rectory: Building History Across Several Centuries

The first written mention of Lodhéřov dates from 1294. The Church of St. Peter and Paul is essentially a Gothic building from the 14th century; it was altered and extended between the 17th and 19th centuries. The rectory in Lodhéřov was built between 1724 and 1730 and was connected to the church by a covered wooden passageway. The dates therefore span the first written mention in the 13th century, the Gothic church building, later alterations, and the 18th-century rectory. The covered passageway is a specific architectural detail that illustrates the connection between the two buildings.

The Lodhéřov Nativity Scene

The Lodhéřov nativity scene offers a different way to explore local history than the buildings do. It comes from Lodhéřov and was regularly displayed there in the local Church of St. Peter and Paul until 1945. It was found in 1968 in the attic of Jindřichův Hradec Castle. In the collection of the Jindřichův Hradec Museum, it is the oldest nativity scene. Its origins, earlier display, and discovery are central to the nativity scene’s story, whereas the history of the church and rectory can be traced through their construction dates and alterations.

Smaller Monuments in the Town

The granite stone cross in the village square dates from 1860. A wayside shrine from the 19th century stands on the outskirts of Lodhéřov, behind house No. 44. The two monuments differ in both their dates and locations: the cross is linked to a specific year and the village square, while the wayside shrine is dated to a century and a spot on the outskirts. Together, they add smaller landmarks at clearly identified locations to the town’s historical points of reference.
