Kamenný Malíkov
Accommodation in Kamenný Malíkov
You can plan a trip to Kamenný Malíkov around several themes: the Malíkovské skály valley and the Žirovnice River, the geological outcrop on the southern edge of the village, and the local history brought to life by the bridge, chapel and earlier cultural traditions. Nature and architectural history offer different focal points. You can decide whether to make the walk to the outcrop or the historic details a bigger part of your day.
Valley, River and Geological Outcrop
Visitors come to Kamenný Malíkov to see the Malíkovské skály valley. The Žirovnice River flows through the valley, which also includes the Čertova skluzavka. The geological site “Výchozy na jižním okraji obce Kamenný Malíkov” is also located on the southern edge of the village: a natural outcrop on the left bank of the Žirovnice. This means the village offers a river valley and a specific geological site as two distinct nature-focused points of interest.
A walkable hiking trail leads to the outcrop from a road on the southern edge of the village. The trail to the site is more than 250 metres long. Factor in this walk if you would like to visit the geological site. This way, you can think of the detour not simply as a stop by the road, but as a route to cover on foot.
Cycling Route Through Kamenný Malíkov
A named cycling route also passes through the village: “Do rodiště Tomáše Štítného” runs through Česká Olešná, Kamenný Malíkov and Zdešov. You can use the route as another point of reference for your planning. Before setting out, check the local cycle-route signs so that you can follow the current signage.
Bridge and Chapel
The stone road bridge in Kamenný Malíkov spans the Počátecký potok. It dates from the second half of the 19th century and is built as a solid single-arch bridge: the roadway is on top, walls and wing walls form part of the structure, and the bridge stands at right angles to the stream. On the east side, a cast-iron statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands on a pedestal. When looking at the bridge, you can take in both its design and the statue as distinct details.
Another historic building is the Chapel of St. Anne. It is a small chapel built of plastered masonry, with a square floor plan, and dates from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. Its hipped roof is topped by a polygonal roof turret. Whereas the bridge draws attention to its construction, here the floor plan and roof design take centre stage. The two buildings therefore offer different points of interest if you are interested in architecture and local history.
History and Local Culture
The founding of Kamenný Malíkov is dated approximately to the 14th century. The earliest written records date from 1512, when the settlement was called Český Malíkov. These two dates distinguish the presumed founding period from the first written records.
Amateur theatre is also part of the village’s history. An amateur theatre group was already in existence in 1924, and had 25 members in 1932. After 1990, Kamenný Malíkov revived its amateur theatre tradition. Earlier in its history, the group put on up to four plays each winter. From the mid-19th century, the village was also home to mother-of-pearl workers, known as čamrdáři. These details add insights into the village’s earlier club and working history alongside its buildings.
When planning your day, you can choose between a nature-focused outing that includes a walk to the outcrop and the historic sites in the village. If you are interested in both, these different focal points can help you divide your time in Kamenný Malíkov according to your interests.
