Vydří offers several distinct points of interest to help plan your trip: two cycling routes, special landscape areas and a historical connection to the village. The Partnership Trail runs from Lásenice through Vydří to Políkno; the Nežárka cycling route also passes through Vydří. Horní rybník lies north of the village, while other biocentres encompass different habitats. You can therefore focus your search for a hotel in Vydří on the themes you want to shape your stay—cycling routes, nature and landscape, or the village’s history.

Cycling routes through Vydří

The Partnership Trail’s route can be identified by the sequence of places it passes through: it runs from Lásenice through Vydří to Políkno. The route follows paved asphalt surfaces. It is suitable for all types of bicycles except road bikes; this assessment may change if the surfaces are altered. So check the latest route information before setting out. The route, surface and bicycle type provide specific points of reference for comparing the trail with your own trip plans.

The Nežárka cycling route also passes through Vydří. It is 53 kilometres long and suitable for trekking bikes. The two routes therefore offer different points of comparison: the Partnership Trail is described by its sequence of places and asphalt surface, while the Nežárka route is described by its total length and suitability for trekking bikes. These details help distinguish the routes by the features specified for each.

Ponds and biocentres

Horní rybník lies north of Vydří and is an ecologically significant landscape feature as well as a local biocentre. A well-developed, relatively broad belt of bank and accompanying vegetation lines the entire shore. The pond is also an important refuge for amphibians, waterbirds and small birds, as well as other organisms in the agricultural landscape. The pond, its shoreline and the animal groups mentioned give this natural area its distinct ecological character.

The local biocentre “Pod Šimáčkovým vrchem” has a different composition: it includes small wooded areas, woodland stands, managed and unmanaged grassland and herbaceous areas, and wetland communities. In contrast to Horní rybník, whose description covers the pond and its continuous shoreline vegetation, the defining feature here is a mosaic of different areas and communities. This gives each of the two biocentres its own focus within the landscape of Vydří.

The “Na soutoku” biocentre lies where Vydřího potoka stream meets an unnamed right-hand tributary from Žabov pond. This adds a specific connection to a stream and its tributary to the shoreline and wetland areas. Together, the three natural areas mentioned illustrate different landscape features: a pond with shoreline vegetation, a habitat mosaic and a confluence.

A historical connection

Vydří was founded in 1365 as part of the Stráž estate. This historical connection complements the themes of cycling and landscape with a clearly dated reference to the village. If you would also like to consider the history of your destination when choosing where to stay, you can take it into account alongside the cycling routes and the different biocentres.
