Plavsko – Village Green, Ponds and the Nežárka
Accommodation in Plavsko
You can get to know Plavsko through its landscape, its long village green and its local history. The municipality recommends the village as a starting point for hiking and cycling; mushroom picking is another activity available in the surrounding area. A scheduled closure of the bridge over the Nežárka is also relevant to your plans.
The Landscape around Plavsko
The Nežárka forms the southern boundary of Plavsko’s cadastral area, while the Jemčinské Forests mark its western boundary. Three ponds lie in the village around the long village green. Together, these features create a distinctive picture: waterways and forests shape the edges of the area, while the village green and ponds define the layout of the settlement.
Plavsko lies in a pond-studded landscape on the edge of the Třeboňsko Protected Landscape Area. When getting your bearings, you can consider both the layout of the village and its position within this landscape. The Nežárka, the Jemčinské Forests and the ponds are useful landmarks, though they do not need to be combined into a particular route.
The Municipal Building and the History of Cheese
Built in 1929, the municipal building housed a hall, an inn, a library, offices and two apartments. One building thus brought together spaces for gatherings, hospitality, library services, administration and living. This glimpse into its former uses adds an aspect of community life in the village to Plavsko’s landscape.
Cheese-making is also part of the village’s history: it began in Plavsko in 1920. Cheeses made there later became known as Romadúr or Unikát. The sequence is clear: production began first, and the product names became known later. The municipal building and cheese production thus represent different sides of local history—community spaces on the one hand and a local tradition of production on the other.
Hiking, Cycling and Mushroom Picking
Plavsko is an ideal starting point for hiking and cycling trips. If you are planning such trips, check local information in advance; for cycling, also take route conditions into account. No specific routes or trip durations are stipulated, so you can plan based on the local information available to you.
The surrounding area also offers suitable conditions for mushroom picking. Alongside trips starting from Plavsko, activities in the surrounding area can therefore be another focus of your stay. The distinction may help with your plans: hiking and cycling are described as trips from the village, while mushroom picking is an activity in the surrounding area. You can take into account which activity matters most to you when choosing your destination.
Getting There and the Bridge over the Nežárka
From 4 May to 29 November 2026, the bridge over the Nežárka on the route towards Plavsko will be closed for reconstruction. A bridge for pedestrians and cyclists has also been built. If you are travelling during this period, check current local information about crossing the river in advance.
