Landscape and location

Dunajovice lies on the edge of the CHKO Třeboňsko Protected Landscape Area. South of the village, Dunajovická hora rises to 504 metres; it is the highest point in the Třeboň Basin. From there, you can enjoy views of Třeboňsko, the Rožmberk Pond, Veselsko and Ševětínsko. These four named viewpoints make Dunajovická hora a clear landscape landmark. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first decide whether the village or Dunajovická hora to the south will be the focus of your stay.

Chapels and local history

The Chapel of the Annunciation stands in the village square. It dates from 1906 and was built on the site of an older chapel. It is designated as a cultural landmark, and its visual appearance is to be preserved.

Another chapel is the niche chapel between house numbers 42 and 51; it dates from around 1800. Together with the Chapel of the Annunciation from 1906, it represents two different periods of construction in the village. The newer chapel also stands on the site of an older chapel.

Stations of the Cross on Dunajovická hora

The Stations of the Cross on Dunajovická hora provide another religious focal point. They comprise fourteen chapels depicting the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. At the end of the Stations of the Cross is the Chapel of the Holy Cross, built over a spring in 1885. Religious buildings are therefore found both in the village and on the hill: individual chapels in Dunajovice and a series of fourteen chapels along the Stations of the Cross. You can distinguish between these two focal points when planning your visit.

Getting there, cycling and swimming

Dunajovická hora is accessible by car, and parking is available there. By bicycle, access is via cycle route 1105. This is distinct from the 47-kilometre cycle tour “Poklidnou krajinou Lišovska do kraje třeboňských rybníků” (Through the Peaceful Landscape of Lišov into the Land of Třeboň’s Ponds), which passes through Dunajovice near Dunajovická hora. Cycle route 1105 describes bicycle access to the hill, while the cycle tour is a 47-kilometre route through the village. This distance provides a concrete basis for choosing a route; as route details can change, check the route before setting out.

The flooded quarry on Dunajovická hora is used for swimming in a natural setting. Swimming conditions can vary. If you plan to swim, check the conditions in advance.

Deciding whether Dunajovice is right for your trip

When deciding whether Dunajovice is a good fit for your trip, one distinction stands out: the village has individual chapels, while Dunajovická hora brings together viewpoints, the Stations of the Cross, bicycle access and the flooded quarry. You can therefore shape your stay around either the village’s cultural buildings or the landscape and activities on the hill.
