Újezd Nade Mží: History, Castle Park and Farmářova stezka
Accommodation in Újezd Nade Mží
Újezd Nade Mží offers several distinct points of interest for a stay: the history of a Renaissance fortress, the castle park of Zámecký statek, the “Jak se dříve žilo” exhibition and Farmářova stezka. A walking route and a cycling route also pass through the town. These attractions offer different experiences, from historical traces to agriculture and animals, as well as routes through the town.
History and surviving structures
Újezd Nade Mží is first mentioned in a forged founding charter of Kladruby Monastery dated 1115; a charter of Teplá Monastery mentions the town in 1242. The year 1115 should therefore be understood as the date of the forged charter, not as the confirmed founding date of the town. Cellars and parts of the perimeter walls remain from the original Renaissance fortress. The written references and surviving structures offer different ways to explore the town’s history: dated records on the one hand, preserved building fabric on the other.
Castle park and visiting hours
The castle park at Zámecký statek Újezd nade Mží is open to the public. Zámecký statek is open every weekend from April to October, as well as daily from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. during the summer holidays. Please check the opening hours before your arrival.
Exhibition, machinery and animals
The “Jak se dříve žilo” exhibition is open year-round. It offers insights into the collection of folk costumes from the Plzeň region and the agriculture of earlier generations. Selected agricultural machines are on display in the park surrounding the castle buildings. The exhibition thus looks back at clothing traditions and agriculture in the past, while the machines can be seen as objects in the park. Along Farmářova stezka, visitors can encounter horses, cows, sheep, rabbits, guinea pigs, llamas, camels and ostriches. These offer different interests for visitors: historical everyday culture and agricultural machinery on the one hand, and getting to know the animals on the other.
Routes, river and getting there
Both a walking route and a cycling route pass through Újezd Nade Mží. Please check the route of your chosen route before travelling. The municipality’s cadastral area includes numerous holiday cottages along the Mže River. The cottages are situated along the Mže, while both routes pass through the town. The river and the cottages broaden the picture of the municipality to include its landscape and recreation. Újezd Nade Mží can be reached by bus or private transport. Please check current travel information when planning your departure.
Choosing your dates and hotel
When planning a hotel stay, your main reason for visiting may influence your travel dates. If Zámecký statek is part of your plans, take note of its seasonal opening hours. The exhibition is open year-round, offering a different timeframe for a visit.
