Discover Líté: Local History and Landscape
Accommodation in Líté
If you’re looking for hotels in Líté, understanding the character of the place can help you decide on your trip. The town’s history dates back to its first written mention in 1175, while a stream valley and forests shape the landscape. The history of kaolin and vitriol, a named biocentre, and events organized by the ÚŽAS association add further points of interest.
Early History and Historical Connections
The first written mention of Líté dates back to 1175. In a deed of donation from that year, Prince Soběslav transferred an area including the villages of Líté and Lomnička to Plasy Monastery. Líté was also connected with Bělá Castle for several centuries, and the Lažanský family also owned the town. Thus, the town’s history brings together an early written reference and long-standing ties to a castle and patterns of ownership.
Kaolin and Vitriol: Traces of Industrial History
Overgrown spoil heaps in Líté recall the town’s former vitriol and kaolin industries. A kaolin deposit was discovered west of the town. The new farm owner, Sigfried Klein, built a kaolin processing plant with a business partner near the road to Spankov.
A vitriol works also formed part of the town’s industrial history. In the second half of the 19th century, it was incorporated into J. Starck’s operations. Together with the kaolin connections, this forms a distinct historical theme alongside the older ties to the monastery, castle, and family. The spoil heaps also continue this industrial history in the landscape.
Stream Valley, Forest, and Zelené jezírko
Líté lies in a small valley crossed by a stream and surrounded by forests. Manětínsko Nature Park extends to the western edge of the town. Zelené jezírko is a local biocentre in the cadastral areas of Líté and Dolní Bělá and is considered a unique geological natural site.
It has also been proposed that Zelené jezírko be designated a protected natural monument and that its former tourist access be restored. These are proposals, not a statement that any changes have already been made. The area’s natural features therefore include both the landscape on the town’s western edge and a named biocentre with its own geological classification.
Events and Activities
The ÚŽAS association holds the annual dance evening “Josefovský jarní vínek” and organizes a traditional carnival procession through Líté. ÚŽAS also hosts a motor-touring competition aimed particularly at parents and children. The events take different forms: the dance evening is an annual event, the carnival procession passes through the town, and the competition is aimed especially at families with children. If you’d like to plan your trip around an event, check the current dates in advance.
The multi-purpose sports court is another activity venue in Líté. You can book a playing session in person or by phone with the facility manager. Since booking arrangements may change, check the current terms in advance. The activities therefore differ in how they need to be planned: for association events, the date is key, while the sports court requires you to book a playing session.
