Úterý combines Baroque religious architecture with a nature trail, paths in the surrounding area, the remains of a former brickworks and local ceramics. This lets you choose different focuses for your stay: architectural history, a walking route, former craft production or seasonal workshops. The sights each offer something different: the church highlights architectural details, the nature trail its length and circular route section, and the ceramics also offer a seasonal opportunity to try the techniques yourself.

Religious buildings and architectural history

Úterý is home to the Baroque Church of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist. It was consecrated in 1698. Its oval floor plan, façade tower and richly decorated interior define this central building. The Baroque Chapel of Saint Wenceslas was also built on the hill above Úterý in 1747. The two dates refer to different events: 1698 is the year the church was consecrated, while 1747 is the year the chapel was built. If you are interested in religious architecture, you will find two named buildings here, each with its own forms and historical dates.

Nature trail and paths along the Úterský potok

The Městečkem Úterý nature trail is about 1.5 kilometres long. Its first seven stops form a circular route that begins in the square by the town hall. Three outer stops provide ideas for hiking or cycling trips in the surrounding area. When planning, you can therefore distinguish between the circular-route section and suggestions for further paths in the area. The last sign on the nature trail introduces the valley of the Úterský potok. From the southern side of Úterý, you can walk along the banks of the stream to the Hracholusky Reservoir. The nature trail stops and a specific waterside route are therefore different options to consider.

Former brickworks and carbonated spring

The remains of the former Haidlovy cihelny brickworks include a factory chimney just over 20 metres high and the ruins of a kiln. From a village pond in Olešovice, a comfortable forest path leads for about half a kilometre to the brickworks remains. As path and site conditions can change, check them before your visit.

The Úterská uhličitá kyselka is a carbonated spring first mentioned in 1693. It lies 2.2 kilometres to the left of the road to Teplá. This natural feature adds to the town’s architectural and industrial history. Check local conditions before visiting this site too.

Ceramics and seasonal workshops

Úterská keramika makes original functional ceramics with Art Nouveau elements. During the summer months, you can take part in workshops at the studio and try out various artistic techniques. The offering is seasonal and may vary before your trip, so ask in advance whether a workshop will be available on your dates. The production reflects local craftsmanship, while the workshops offer a temporary opportunity to participate yourself.
