Mrtník combines historic features with recurring events and the Areál Na Výsluní.

Building History and Landscape

In the northwestern part of Mrtník, historic farmsteads with old gateway structures have retained their original character. A historic wooden gable can be seen on house No. 7. A gable is the upper end wall of a building beneath the roof; the gable on house No. 7 is therefore a single architectural detail alongside the several farmsteads. This brings together an area with several historic farmsteads and one specifically identified architectural feature.

Three silver hills in the municipal coat of arms commemorate the kaolin once mined in the area. Unlike the farmsteads, the coat of arms refers to past mineral extraction rather than a type of building. Forests also shape the landscape, covering about half of Mrtník’s cadastral area. The forest cover adds a broader view of the landscape to the individual buildings.

Masopust and Winter Hiking

A masked Masopust parade takes place in Mrtník every year. The parade passed through the municipality on March 8, 2025, and February 14, 2026. Since the specific dates have varied, check the date for the year of your trip if you are visiting for this event.

The annual “Mrtnická šlapka” winter hike is also organized in cooperation with local associations. The 11th edition took place on December 27, 2025. For trip planning, the two events can be distinguished as follows: check the specific date of that year’s Masopust parade; “Mrtnická šlapka” is a winter hike with a corresponding seasonal focus.

Leisure Facilities at Areál Na Výsluní

Areál Na Výsluní has refreshments, sanitary facilities and a children’s playground. Refreshments may be available seasonally. If this is important to you, take the seasonal limitation into account when planning.

Annual children’s events are held at the complex: an Easter egg hunt, a Children’s Day event, an end-of-holiday event and a kite-flying event. If you plan to visit for one of these events, check the specific date in advance. The fire-water reservoir can also be used for swimming at your own risk.

Getting There and Cycling Route

Mrtník is connected to public transport by bus; there is no railway connection. Check the bus timetable before travelling so you can plan your connections accordingly.

For cycling visitors, the 54 km “Do lesů plných borůvek” route passes through the Mrtník turnoff. Its total length gives you a specific reference point for including the ride in your travel plans.

For a stay focused on local history or cycling, you can instead use your own travel plans as a starting point.
