Nýřany’s historical highlights range from town hall architecture and religious buildings to mining heritage. When planning your trip, you can compare these themes with seasonal offers and events to see whether architectural history, remembrance or a particular occasion should shape your stay.

Town Hall, Church and Chapel

Nýřany Town Hall is a Neo-Renaissance building dating from 1885; one of its features is a painted ceiling. Its construction date places it in the late 19th century, while the ceiling adds a specific decorative feature.

The single-nave, pseudo-Gothic Church of St. Procopius was built in 1903–1904. “Single-nave” describes the layout of the church interior, while “pseudo-Gothic” refers to its stylistic classification. The church is dedicated to St. Procopius, the patron saint of miners. Its architectural form and religious dedication thus stand side by side; the dedication also connects it to the history of mining.

Nýřany’s Baroque chapel was rebuilt in the 18th century. Following its restoration in 1991, it was dedicated to St. Wenceslas. Beside the chapel stands a stone statue of St. John of Nepomuk dating from 1862. The dates mark different stages: the chapel’s reconstruction, its restoration and subsequent dedication, and the creation of the statue. This makes it possible to distinguish the building’s history from its fittings chronologically.

Remembrance and Mining History

A monument in front of the town hall commemorates 13 miners who were shot during the 1890 strike. It marks the remembrance of a specific event, setting it apart from the buildings, whose dates identify periods of construction or restoration.

In Humboldtka, a district of Nýřany, the miners’ colony of the former Humboldt mine has been preserved. It complements the memorial at the town hall with a physical link to the area’s former mining industry.

Landscape and Collection

Dense forests stretch across the area around Nýřany. The Vejprnický stream is one of four streams named in connection with Nýřany; it is also known as the Baitbach. The forests and the stream offer different landscape features: the forests shape the surrounding area, while the stream is identified by its individual name.

The Rodinné muzeum hraček (Family Toy Museum) displays, among other things, porcelain dolls and antique prams in its collection. This adds a theme distinct from religious architecture and mining history. The items on display may change.

Events and Seasonal Offers

Běh města Nýřany is a traditional annual sporting event. The Easter walk “Stopou Janovského vodníka” has been held in Nýřany for many years and takes place at Easter. The events differ in when they are held: the race takes place annually, while the walk is tied to the Easter period. If you would like to plan your trip around the walk, check the current dates locally.

In winter, the multi-purpose sports court at the Koupaliště Nýřany leisure centre serves as a natural ice rink; actual availability may vary. This is a different planning factor from an event date: the natural ice rink depends on its availability during the relevant winter season.
