Krašovice: Pond, History and Culture
Accommodation in Krašovice
Krašovice combines a village landscape shaped by streams and a pond with historic buildings and cultural activities. Named routes and local events add to the topics that may play a role in planning your trip.
Streams, Pond and Village Layout
The Bělá and Brodský streams meet in Krašovice. A 5.8-hectare pond divides the village into the two districts of Ves and Bojiště. The stream and pond represent different landscape features: one lies at the confluence of two streams, while the other divides Krašovice into two named parts. The district road from Plzeň to Manětín also runs through the village. Thus, both the waterways and the road connection are distinctive features of the village’s location.
Church and Traces of the Fortress
The most significant monument in Krašovice is the Baroque Church of sv. Jiljí. Built in 1778, it is a clearly dated structure in the village’s history. The remains of the fortress on the eastern edge of the village near house No. 38 have survived differently: only faint traces of the fortifications and a rampart can be found there. Krašovice is therefore home to different kinds of historical evidence—a named Baroque monument and limited, faintly preserved traces of a fortress.
Art, Theatre and Village Life
Ateliér Krašovice regularly holds exhibitions and exhibition openings in the attic of the municipal office. It also offers weekend workshops in artistic and craft techniques, led by specialist instructors. Another format is art classes led by MgA. Petra Krausová. Children and adults from Krašovice and the surrounding area take part. The exhibitions, workshops and classes differ in their purpose and format, ranging from presentations to guided artistic and craft techniques.
Performances are also part of village cultural life. The KROSÁČEK children’s group performs at various cultural events. The KROS theatre association performs in surrounding villages as well as in the local hall of the Krašovice community centre. The volunteer fire brigade also organises a Masopustní průvod every year. If you want to plan your trip around a particular performance or this procession, check the date in advance.
Routes and Special Events
The “Do lesů plných borůvek” cycling route is 54 km long and passes through Krašovice. This is distinct from the section of the Železná trasa from Plasy Monastery to Krašovice, which measures 10.2 km. The two figures therefore do not refer to the same route or distance. One describes the length of the named cycling route, while the other refers to a single section with specified starting and ending points. This distinction is useful when interpreting route information for your plans.
At the traditional Krašovická jízda přes velký rybník event, participants attempt to cross a bridge over the pond on bicycles. It is 125 m long and only 10–30 cm wide. These unusual dimensions define the challenge. Check specific upcoming dates and visitor arrangements before making plans.
