If you are looking for a hotel in Tužice, these different topics can help structure your plans: the historical records and the chapel relate to the town, while named routes and Velhartice Castle offer further destinations.
Local History and Stoneworking Tradition
The oldest officially confirmed written mention of Tužice dates back to 1361. A land register from 1600 records, among other things, the Buršovský, Bartíkovský, and Deblovský estates, as well as the three cottages Hudcovská, Ševcovská, and Řahovská. The oldest entry in the land register of the Nalžovy estate concerns the Tužice inn and dates from 1767. The historical records thus range from the earliest written mention through estates and cottages to a later entry about the inn.
Quarrying and stoneworking are part of Tužice’s historical and present-day tradition. In 1910, stonemason Matěj Šolar built a house in Tužice and began quarrying stone in the Chvalici forest. Medium-grained hornblende-biotite granodiorite is quarried at the Tužice quarry (Vlčí hora). It is used to produce paving cubes, kerbstones, masonry stone, rubble stone, garden features, and gravel; the product range may change. The operation focuses on rough stone processing.
Granodiorite and Quarry Access
The Tužice quarry (Vlčí hora) is one of the area’s geologically interesting sites. Its face is up to 45 metres high, while the extraction benches are 15 to 18 metres high. These measurements describe different dimensions: the height of the face and the height of the individual extraction benches. A permit is required to drive into the quarry. Check the access requirements before your visit.

In the wider area, the Hnačov circular trail goes around the largest recreational pond in the Klatovy District. The loop is also suitable for families with small children. In Nalžovské Hory, the blue hiking trail runs from the town centre to Prašivice; it is about two kilometres long. These offer two different route options: a loop around a recreational pond and a short hiking trail of about two kilometres to a named destination.
At Velhartice Castle, both the castle and chateau interiors are currently open to visitors. Check access information before your visit. The area around Tužice is also suitable for picking mushrooms and forest fruits. Linden trees shape the townscape in central Tužice; there you will find a chapel dedicated to the Assumption of Mary.
