Dlažov – Hiking and Architectural History
Accommodation in Dlažov
For a stay in Dlažov, hiking, views and architectural history offer different points of interest. The yellow-marked route to Rozhledna Markéta combines the climb with a clear destination. On Svatá Markéta hill, the views are complemented by the history of the chapel of the same name. The church and other chapels add buildings from different periods to the natural scenery and viewpoints. If you are looking for a hotel in Dlažov, these themes can help you plan your stay around your interests—with time for a hike, views from the tower or historic buildings.
Hiking Route and Visit to Rozhledna Markéta
The hiking route starts at the edge of Dlažov and is marked in yellow. It leads to Rozhledna Markéta, is about 2.6 kilometres long and has an elevation gain of 150 metres. Distance and elevation gain describe two different aspects of the tour, and both are useful when planning your day: as well as the length of the route, you should also take the climb into account. Since trail conditions can change, it is advisable to check the current state of the route before setting out.
Admission to Rozhledna Markéta is free. Nevertheless, check the current opening conditions before your visit so you can plan it sensibly into your day.
Views and Chapel on Svatá Markéta
Svatá Markéta is located above Dlažov at an elevation of 642 metres above sea level. From Rozhledna Markéta, the panoramic view stretches west to Čerchov, south to Ostrý, north to Doubrava and east over the Klatovská kotlina. People have long come to Svatá Markéta hill for its impressive views and unspoilt nature. The views and natural surroundings therefore complement the hiking route as features of the place.
The Chapel of Svatá Markéta was built on the hill above Dlažov in 1886 and dedicated to Saint Margaret. Its solemn consecration took place in 1887 in the presence of 25 priests and with a large turnout of people from the surrounding area. The construction and consecration are thus two successive events: the building and dedication were followed by the solemn consecration the next year.
Churches and Chapels: Different Architectural Histories
The Church of “sv. Antonína Paduánského” in Dlažov is a simple 18th-century building. The original form of an earlier Chapel of the Virgin Mary has been preserved in the masonry of the nave of today’s parish church. Those interested in architectural history can distinguish two aspects here: the simple 18th-century building and the form of an older chapel preserved in the nave.
In Miletice, the Chapel of “sv. Jana Nepomuckého” was built in 1760 in the Baroque style. This presents two different descriptions of religious buildings: the church in Dlažov is noted for its simple design, while the chapel in Miletice is described by its Baroque style and specific year of construction.
A report from October 2021 mentions restored frescoes in the Chapel of “sv. Jana Nepomuckého”, including scenes from the life of Saint Joseph that visitors could see at the time. If you would like to see the frescoes yourself, check access to the interior in advance.
