Běhařov lies in the foothills of the Šumava Mountains, where the Šumava meets the Český les. The village is situated on the left bank of the Úhlava and in the lee of Pohoří Hill. Cultural history and cycling routes offer different focuses when planning a trip. If you are looking for a hotel, you could first consider whether the history of the village or a particular loop distance will shape your stay more.

Cultural History in Běhařov

Alois Kalvoda used Běhařov Castle as a summer painting school specialising in landscape painting. The castle is not open to the public; check access again before your trip.

St. Procopius Church is a small early Gothic church dating from after the mid-13th century. It has three altars; the main altar features a Baroque statue of Saint Procopius. The two cultural-history topics offer different focuses: the castle’s use as a painting school, and the construction date and furnishings of St. Procopius.

Cycling Routes and Distance Comparison

Cycling route 2089 can be accessed from the village square in Běhařov. Cycling route 2052 passes through Úborsko and Bystřice nad Úhlavou on its way to Nýrsko. The details describe different aspects: for route 2089, the access point at the village square is specified; for route 2052, its course through other towns is given. Three loop routes also offer specific sequences of places and distances. This lets you distinguish a connection to the cycling network from loops whose routes and distances are described.

  • The 22 km loop runs from Úborsko via Běhařov, Dobrá Voda, Svatá Markéta, Veselí and Klenová, then back to Úborsko.
  • The 25 km loop runs from Běhařov via Pocinovice, Orlovice, Orlovická Hora, Jezvinec, Nýrsko and Úborsko, then back to Běhařov.
  • The 30 km loop runs via Úborsko, Běhařov, Dobrá Voda, Libkov, Modlín, Loučim and Koráb, and back.

By distance, the 22 km loop is the shortest and the 30 km loop the longest, with the 25 km loop in between. There is an eight-kilometre difference between the shortest and longest options. This lets you compare the loops by distance without assuming a riding time. The differences between adjacent loops are three kilometres between 22 and 25, and five kilometres between 25 and 30.

Nature Outings and Scenic Views

For nature outings, you can also use paved paths in the surroundings of the municipalities, with views of the Šumava, the Strážovské vrchy, the Český les and the Úhlava Valley. Here, the landscape takes centre stage; the loops, by contrast, are chiefly described by their stated distances and sequences of places. If you are weighing up the options, these different focuses can guide your trip planning.
