You can explore Trpísty for trip planning through two specific aspects: the building history of Zámek Trpísty Castle and the landscape around the Úterský potok. If you are looking for a hotel in Trpísty, you can weigh up whether cultural history or the cycling route and natural surroundings are more important in choosing your destination.

Zámek Trpísty Castle and its Building History

Zámek Trpísty Castle stands on the site of a medieval fortress belonging to the Lords of Gutštejn. In 1729, the castle was built to plans by the architect Jakub Auguston ml. for Prosper ze Sinzendorfu, the owner of the estate. This means that a medieval connection and a clearly dated 18th-century castle building come together at the same location.

The castle is considered an outstanding example of High Baroque architecture in West Bohemia and, more broadly, of 18th-century Central European Baroque architecture. This classification links a regional perspective with the wider architectural history of Central Europe. The Zámek Trpísty complex also includes a castle garden and a park.

Chapels in the Castle and on the Village Square

The castle contains the private chapel of Panny Marie Pomocné, which houses a painting of the Coronation of the Virgin Mary. A central polygonal masonry chapel stands on Trpísty's village square. The two chapels have different features: the painting of the Virgin Mary is noted in the private chapel, while the chapel on the village square is distinguished by its shape and building material.

Cycling Route and Itinerary

Cycling route 2214 runs from the village square in Trpísty along a field track above the valley towards Sviňomazy. Road surfaces and conditions can change, so check the route conditions before setting out. The castle is one of the sights on the “Úterský potok až po Trpísty” cycling route. The route description for 2214 focuses on its course and direction, while the castle is listed as a sight on the named route.

Landscape along the Úterský potok

The regional biocentre RBC Trpísty extends partly into the municipality and includes riverside vegetation, meadows, and forests. A section of the Úterský potok canyon runs along the entire northeastern boundary of Trpísty's administrative area. Within the municipality, the ecological corridor of the Úterský potok includes natural river channels and their riverside vegetation, wetlands with marsh thistles, floodplain forests, rock vegetation, bilberry pine forests, and acidophilous beech forests. Most of these features are only partially functional, though some are fully functional locally. A floodplain forest is a forest in a river floodplain; “acidophilous” describes plants that prefer acidic soils. The first term names a habitat, while the second describes the site requirements of the beech forests mentioned in the corridor.
