Obora brings together hiking, cycling and regional history. Notable points of interest include the educational Branka Cycle Route, the stone Oborská hájovna and traces of historic routes. The entire municipality of Obora lies within the Český les Protected Landscape Area.

Hiking and cycling

The marked Tachov–Pavlův Studenec hiking route is 15.6 km long and of moderate difficulty. If you are choosing a hike based on length and difficulty, this information provides a clear guide. The educational Branka Cycle Route offers a different experience: it is a 17 km circular route with eleven stops that passes through Obora. Branka is suitable for hikers, cyclists and cross-country skiers.

The eleventh stop on the cycle route is at the entrance to Obora. This gives the circular route a specific connection to the village at this point. When choosing between the two routes, their character is especially useful to consider: Tachov–Pavlův Studenec is classified as a moderately difficult hiking route, while Branka is a circular route with stops, suitable for several types of travel.

Oborská hájovna and historic routes

The stone Oborská hájovna in the valley of the Sklářský potok was already standing around 1650. It belonged to a game preserve established by Jan Filip Husmann. The hájovna can be reached from Obora via a blue-marked hiking route. This place thus brings together a historic building, its connection to the game preserve and a specific hiking route.

Traces of old routes also lead to the Oborská hájovna: a particularly prominent cluster of sunken lanes of the Zlatá cesta runs from the hamlet of Hruškovna near Zadní Milíře down into the valley to the hájovna. A medieval road dating from the 12th to the 16th century also lies near Obora u Tachova. The dates refer to different things: the hájovna was already standing around 1650, while the road dates back several centuries earlier.

History in the surrounding region

In the region around Obora, the settlement of Pavlova Huť lies on the Sklářský potok. The glassworks from which it takes its name was founded there around 1743 by Baltazar and Michael Fuchs. The history of the place can therefore also be explored through glassmaking, without confusing the founding date of the glassworks with the founding of the settlement.

Near Pavlova Huť, the Chapel of St. Anne was rebuilt in 2017 on the foundations of a chapel built in 1935. These dates mark a distinct sequence: the earlier chapel, its foundations and the later reconstruction. Together with the glassworks, the Oborská hájovna and traces of historic roads and routes, the surrounding region offers several different points of interest in cultural history. Those choosing Obora for a trip will find, alongside the cycle route and hiking routes, specific ways to explore the history of the area.
