Discover Kostelec U Stříbra
Accommodation in Kostelec U Stříbra
Kostelec U Stříbra reveals itself through its history, architecture and golf. In Alfrédov, history reaches back to the 12th century; at the same time, woodland, water features and a centuries-old lime avenue shape the 78-hectare golf course. In Nedražice and Ostrov u Stříbra, chapels and details of the castle tell of different building phases. This gives you both natural and cultural-historical points of interest to help plan your trip.
Alfrédov: History and Golf Course
Alfrédov’s history reaches back to the 12th century; the place once belonged to Kladruby Monastery. A later turning point came in 1825, when Alfréd I Windischgrätz bought the Alfrédov estate and renamed the village of Všetice Alfrédov. Its former ties to the monastery and its later renaming thus belong to different chapters in the place’s history.
The Alfrédov golf course covers 78 hectares and lies in a picturesque landscape with woodland and numerous water features. A centuries-old lime avenue runs through the middle of the course. The area and its landscape features define the setting, while the avenue forms a striking line through it. Tee times on the golf course can be booked at the club reception. The course opened to the public on 2 September 2000. Check the current access and booking arrangements before your visit.
The Alfrédov complex also includes a newly restored manor house, a distinctive fountain and a large park area. Here, landscaped grounds and natural scenery sit side by side with the golf course and lime avenue. Chapels and Castle Details
The Chapel of St John of Nepomuk in Nedražice was built around 1750. It is hexagonal and topped by a dome with a lantern; the interior features wall paintings. Its ground plan, dome and interior provide different ways to explore the building: you can admire its exterior form as well as the painted decoration inside.
A Baroque statue of the Madonna has been preserved on the later-modified gate of Nedražice Castle. The castle’s core probably dates back to a fortress mentioned in the first half of the 14th century. The castle thus brings together a presumed medieval origin and a surviving Baroque detail.
The Chapel of St Wenceslas and St Adalbert in Ostrov u Stříbra was built between 1729 and 1756; its tower was added later. Compared with the chapel in Nedražice, built around 1750, both histories of construction belong to the mid-18th century. The later addition of the tower in Ostrov also points to a further building phase.
The Alfrédov Farmstead
The Alfrédov farmstead also offers an insight into building history. Its courtyard is rectangular, with single-storey farm buildings on both sides. There is also a two-storey residential building dating from around the late 18th century. The layout makes the different functions of the buildings clear: the farm buildings flank the courtyard, while the taller house adds a different scale. Unlike the chapels, the focus here is not on religious architecture, but on the layout of a farmstead.
For planning your trip, you can choose according to your interests: Alfrédov combines scenery, golf and a long local history, while the buildings in Nedražice and Ostrov draw attention to architectural forms, historical dates and surviving details.
