In Sebečice, local history, scenic views and geological history come together for travelers with different interests. For orientation, it is worth noting how the locations are connected: Biskoupky is part of the municipality of Sebečice; both the observation tower and the Biskoupky Nature Monument are located in Biskoupky.

Local History and Chapel

The first written mention of Sebečice dates from 1359. Biskoupky, part of the municipality of Sebečice, is first mentioned in written records in 1445. The Biskoupky fortress was already uninhabited when it was sold in 1573. The remains of the fortress are located in farmyard No. 1.

The Chapel of St. Margaret stands beside a pond in the village square of Sebečice. The former school building in Sebečice was converted into a multipurpose building with a grocery store and a restaurant. If you plan to visit the store or restaurant during the day, check their opening hours in advance.

Observation Tower and Fossil Site

The Biskoupky u Sebečic observation tower is a metal structure built in 2019. Its observation platform is located on the western edge of the settlement of Biskoupky, below Bašovka Hill. The tower is freely accessible year-round; visitors climb it at their own risk.

The Biskoupky Nature Monument lies in the cadastral area of Biskoupky, within the municipality of Sebečice. It is a classic Middle Cambrian fossil site, with exposures of fossil-bearing sediments from the Skryje-Týřovice Cambrian. While the tower and its observation platform focus on the views, the nature monument centers on geological history.

Hiking Trails and Regional Excursions

A circular hike starting in Sebečice first follows the blue-marked trail to Chotětín. The red markings then lead to the U Zámečku junction; from there, follow the green markings past the vanished settlement of Rovný to the Pod Babskou skálou junction. The blue trail leads back to Sebečice, passing the abandoned castle site on Babská skála Hill. The trail colors and named junctions are useful landmarks for planning your route. As trail conditions can change, check their current status before setting out.

Near Sebečice, an almost seven-kilometer section of the ascent leads to the Babská skála viewpoint. It starts at the holiday cottage area below Drahoňův Újezd and includes a short descent in Sebečice. On January 1, 2023, the New Year’s hike went from Biskoupky via Sebečice to Bašovka and ended with light refreshments.

Further afield, on the edge of Křivoklátsko near Sebečice, is the Alp Rieser family farm. Activities offered there include meeting alpacas and other animals, milking goats, and courses in spinning on a spinning wheel and felting wool. Check availability before your trip.
