Nový Kramolín: Baroque Heritage and Landscape
Accommodation in Nový Kramolín
You can get to know Nový Kramolín through its religious art, historic local connections and landscape. This offers different areas of focus when planning your trip: Baroque art and municipal history on the one hand, and protected areas, distinctive landforms and trails on the other. You can tailor your stay according to whether you are more interested in cultural history or in nature and outdoor activities.
Baroque Art and Architecture
The late Baroque sculpture group Sousoší Nejsvětější Trojice dates from 1766 and is located in the garden of the Nový Kramolín kindergarten. Its pedestal is made of granite, while the group itself is made of sandstone. The chapel dedicated to Saint Wenceslas stands at the edge of the village on the road towards Vlkanov. It was built in the Baroque style in the 18th century and later modernised. The village’s history thus brings together a late Baroque ensemble and a chapel whose building history also includes later alterations. Nový Kramolín is also home to a Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk.
Municipal History
Until 1786, Nový Kramolín belonged to the Pivoň estate of the Augustinian monastery; after that, the municipality came under the Poběžovice estate. Another historic connection leads to the former village of Valtířov: the Valtířov monument stands on its site and was built in the 1990s from granite, metal and wood. The succession of owners tells the story of the municipality’s estates, while the monument points to a specific former village site.
Landscape and Natural Environment
Part of the municipal area lies within the Český les Protected Landscape Area and Český les Nature Park. A rock outcrop with a cross is considered the area’s most prominent landscape feature. A protected quartz ridge is located both in the cadastral area and in the village of Nový Kramolín. A natural pond was renovated in 2008 and equipped with new pools. The landscape features also serve different roles: the rock outcrop shapes the landscape, while the quartz ridge is designated as protected.
Trails and Activities
Hiking trails pass through the western part of the municipal area. Paved paths provide access to the surrounding area for short recreational outings. The references therefore differ in their location and purpose: the hiking trails are in the western part of the area, while the paved paths are for short recreation nearby. On 14 March 2025, the project for a pedestrian and cycling route between Nový Kramolín and Postřekov was completed. The route connects the two municipalities and is intended for pedestrians, cyclists, inline skaters and other users.
A water reservoir towards Vlkanov is used for swimming. If swimming is part of your stay, please check before your visit whether it is currently possible to use it. For nature and swimming, be sure to distinguish between the two bodies of water: the natural pond renovated in 2008 and the reservoir towards Vlkanov that is used for swimming.
