The Hradisko Monument commemorates the freedom of the Czech nation and the victims of the world wars. Castle history, churches and chapels add to this picture; a hiking trail and a recurring folk music festival provide further highlights. This makes it possible to plan your stay around your cultural interests, outdoor activities or an event date.

The Hradisko Monument and Castle History

The Hradisko Monument is a monumental structure made of rubble stone, with a surrounding wall and a staircase. Its commemorative significance links the memory of the freedom of the Czech nation with remembrance of the victims of the world wars. A memorial stone near the monument commemorates its ceremonial unveiling in 1921, attended by President Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. Both the purpose of the monument and a specific event in its history are therefore topics you can take into account when planning your trip.

Velký Týnec Castle tells a different historical story: it stands on the site of an originally medieval fortress with a farmyard. Count Karel Martinic had a Baroque castle built on the fortress grounds. The castle’s history thus spans a medieval complex and a later Baroque building phase. The castle garden is open to the public. If you are particularly interested in the history of the area, the monument and the castle offer distinct yet complementary themes for your stay.

Churches, Chapels and Architectural Details

Kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie Church acquired its present form between 1750 and 1760. It is a single-nave, longitudinal building with a semicircular apse. The Stations of the Cross are also part of its history: they were originally laid out along the path to Hradisko. The date of the renovation and the brief description of the building’s form give architecture enthusiasts a specific way to explore the church; the original location of the Stations of the Cross adds historical context.

In Vsisko stands Kostel sv. Matouše Church, built in 1867. Two statues dating from the first half of the 18th century stand in front of its entrance: Barbara and Matthew. The church also houses a working harmonium by E. Krauss of Stuttgart, made in the second third of the 19th century. It underwent major repairs in 2024. If the instrument is especially important to your trip, it is advisable to ask about its current condition in advance.

Kaple Narození Panny Marie in Čechovice was built in 1901. This single-nave, longitudinal building has a semicircular apse. Two statues stand in front of the chapel; the years 1913 and 1890 are inscribed on their pedestals. In addition to the building’s own construction date, the structure thus features two more dates explicitly associated with the pedestals.

Further individual details can be found at Kaple Panny Marie and Husův sbor of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. The gable of Kaple Panny Marie bears the coat of arms of Canon Giannini; a stone plaque carries an inscription and the year 1755. Husův sbor was built in 1924 to a design by Alois Košacký. A memorial plaque on its entrance façade commemorates the Czechoslovak legionaries. Zámeček, meanwhile, was built by the Olomouc Chapter in 1792 and is privately owned.

Hiking Trail, Grove and Folk Festival

As a complement to the historic buildings, the Stezka z Týnce do Týnce hiking trail runs for twelve kilometers. Ten stops with information boards cover local sights and facts. The trail length and number of stops give you two specific points of reference if you want to include the hike in your stay; no walking time is specified.

Háji Malého Noe was established on Hradisko Hill near Velký Týnec. Nadace Malý Noe, the municipality of Velký Týnec, the company Arboeko and individual tree sponsors all contributed to the creation of the grove. Týnecká folková zahrada is a recurring folk music festival held in the castle garden. If a particular edition of the festival is the reason for your trip, check the event date you want before booking a hotel. For a stay outside the festival period, local history, sacred buildings and the hiking trail offer different options to focus on.
