Discover Vítkov
Accommodation in Vítkov
Vítkov brings together a range of things to explore during a stay: two churches from different periods, a nature trail with stops and information boards, a cycling route through the Moravice Valley, as well as Adventure Golf and the nearby Vítkovský Balaton. If you are looking for a hotel in Vítkov, these attractions can help you decide which part of the town is of particular interest for planning your trip.
Churches, construction dates and local tradition
The Parish Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Vítkov is Neo-Gothic and was built between 1910 and 1914. It is also known as the “Cathedral of Vítkov.” Neo-Gothic is a style that draws on Gothic forms. This distinguishes the parish church stylistically from the older cemetery church.
The Cemetery Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Vítkov dates from 1625. The dates therefore mark two significantly different periods of construction: 1625 for the cemetery church and 1910–1914 for the parish church. Both bear the name Assumption of the Virgin Mary; the terms parish church and cemetery church help distinguish them.
The parish church was built from locally sourced stone. According to local oral tradition, a spring emerged while the foundations were being excavated and is still active today. Thus, alongside the construction date and architectural style, local building material and a story passed down through the generations are also associated with the church.
At present, midnight Masses and concerts of classical and sacred music are held in the parish church during the Christmas holidays. If you are planning to attend one of these events, check the specific dates in advance; event dates may change.
Nature trail and cycling route
The Dědictví břidlice nature trail through Zálužné is about 7 km long. It has 16 stops with a total of 22 information boards, as well as 3 rest areas. The approximate route length, the stops and boards, and the rest areas offer different points of reference: you can get a sense of the trail both from its overall length and from its information and break points.
The Okolo Moravice cycling route runs through the picturesque valley of the Moravice River in Moravice Nature Park. The descriptions emphasize different things: the nature trail’s length and facilities are quantified, while the cycling route is defined by its course through the valley and nature park. If you are choosing between the two, consider whether you would rather focus on stops with information boards or on the scenery along the Moravice River. Check current route conditions before planning a trip.
Adventure Golf, reservoir and visitor information
Adventure Golf Vítkov offers 18 themed holes and is suitable for children and adults. This adds a different kind of leisure activity to the historic buildings and routes.
The artificial Vítkovský Balaton reservoir lies on the Kamenský potok, about 2 km beyond Vítkov on the road to Kamenka. Fishing is possible at the reservoir, and mushrooms can be picked in the surrounding forests. If you are planning either activity, check local conditions in advance, as they may change.
The information centre in Vítkov is certified as part of the Cyklisté vítáni system. If you want to take this certification into account when planning, check the current service status before your trip.
