Píšť combines a rich religious heritage with summer leisure activities. The Church of St. Lawrence, a historic chapel and the park sundial offer several cultural points of interest; in summer, the outdoor swimming pool and minigolf add to the options. When looking for a hotel in Píšť, it is worth considering your travel dates and the main focus of your trip: pilgrimage, architectural and art history, or seasonal activities can each shape your stay in a different way.

Church of St. Lawrence and Pilgrimage Site

The Church of St. Lawrence in Píšť was built in 1743. Baroque statues of St. Peter and St. Paul have been preserved inside. In 2002, the church was established as a Marian pilgrimage site for prayers for peace and reconciliation among peoples. The pilgrimage site includes a Stations of the Cross completed in 2003, with ceramic reliefs, and a Lourdes grotto.

The dates mark different milestones: 1743 is the year the church was built, 2002 the year it was established as a pilgrimage site, and 2003 the year the Stations of the Cross were completed. This makes it possible to consider the older building and its later religious features separately. If you are interested in religious heritage, you will find both a specific year of construction and a dedication to peace and reconciliation among peoples here.

Chapel and Park Sundial

Another historic monument in Píšť is the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk. It is octagonal, dates from the late 19th century and is a cultural monument. Octagonal describes its ground plan, which has eight sides. Inside is an 18th-century sandstone statue of St. John of Nepomuk. The figure is therefore older than the chapel in which it stands.

The park sundial measures 16 × 47 metres. When it was created in July 2005, it was the largest sundial of its kind in Europe. The dimensions give a concrete sense of its size; the European superlative describes the situation at the time it was created.

Summer Activities and Pilgrimage Dates

The local outdoor swimming pool and minigolf course are used in summer. The minigolf course is next to the swimming pool; an international minigolf tournament is held there every year as part of Czech-Polish cross-border cooperation. The tournament combines leisure activities with cross-border exchange. The summer season for the swimming pool and minigolf and the annual tournament are different seasonal points of interest.

Every August, Píšť holds the pilgrimage to St. Lawrence, known as “Píšťský odpust.” Several pilgrimage events take place during the week around 10 August; the specific programme may vary from year to year. If you would like to plan your stay around an event, check the dates for the relevant year. The swimming pool and minigolf are summer activities, while the pilgrimage can make August a particular focus for your stay.

Border Crossing and Nature in the Surrounding Area

Píšť has an international border crossing to Owsiszcze. If you plan to use it for your trip, check its current operating status in advance. Nearby, the Hranečník natural monument protects a colony of grey herons (Ardea cinerea), which are rare in North Moravia. This offers a different point of interest from Píšť’s architectural and church history. Nesting areas may need protection from disturbance; if you visit, please respect the need to protect them.
