When planning a stay in Odry, you can choose from a range of interests: historic architecture, the history of slate mining, an exhibition about the Odra, or activities in the countryside. If you’re looking for a hotel in Odry, these themes can help you choose the focus that’s right for your trip. The heritage conservation area features an ensemble of buildings from several periods; trails and the mine explore the history of mining, while the viewpoint and mountain bike park offer other ways to enjoy the outdoors.

Heritage Conservation Area and Architectural History

The town’s heritage conservation area is bounded by the natural line of the former town walls. At its heart is a stylistically diverse ensemble of townhouses with late medieval, Renaissance and early Baroque influences. The result is a range of architectural styles rather than a character shaped by a single period. One precisely dated detail concerns the Church of St. Bartholomew: its bell was cast in 1374. You can also visit a collection of beer glasses, bricks and tiles in the bastion in Odry. The area’s attractions range from the design of the townhouses to a historic object and a collection of diverse items and materials.

Slate Mining Above and Below Ground

Flascharův důl is one of only two publicly accessible slate mines in Czechia. Visitors can explore 400 metres of underground tunnels. After the tour, you can use special shears to cut a heart out of slate yourself. Above ground, the K Flascharovu dolu educational trail runs through the Nový Svět mining area, where seven old slate mines or mining sites have been preserved. The trail is about 3.5 kilometres long and has 15 information panels. It is also suitable for families with children. The city may adjust route details, so check the latest route information before setting out. The Stříbrný chodník educational trail also provides information about the history of mining silver-bearing ores.

Countryside, Views and Mountain Biking

The Pohoř–Olšová viewing platform stands 13 metres high. From there, the view stretches across the Moravian Gate to the Moravian-Silesian Beskids. HEIBIKEPARK offers a different kind of activity: it is a gravity-fed downhill mountain bike park for beginners and experienced riders. Bikes and equipment are available to rent there; check rental availability before your trip.

The Oderské vrchy are located in the area around Odry. They were designated a natural park in 1994. Their forested landscape, with numerous natural attractions, invites visitors to take walks year-round. Walks in the surrounding countryside are another way to spend time outdoors, alongside enjoying the view from the lookout and downhill mountain biking.

Exhibition About the Odra

At the Muzeum Oderska, the permanent exhibition “Ó Odra” explores life around the Odra River and along its course. The exhibition was updated in 2025. Its theme complements the history of the town’s architecture and mining with a look at the river and life in its surroundings.
