Šenov u Nového Jičína: Cycling Routes and Cultural Heritage
Accommodation in Šenov U Nového Jičína
There are several themes to choose from for a trip to Šenov u Nového Jičína: two cycling routes of different lengths, historic sites, the trail to Bannerova studánka, and a community festival in August. You can weigh up which of these should shape your stay by considering the specific route, access and timing information.
Cycling: comparing two routes
The 96-kilometre Okruh Kravařsko cycling loop passes through Šenov u Nového Jičína. The moderately difficult cycle route No. 6175, “Palackého stezka,” is 14 kilometres long and runs from Hostašovice through Šenov u Nového Jičína to Kunín. This gives you two routes with significantly different lengths and courses: one is a loop, while the other runs from Hostašovice through Šenov u Nového Jičína to Kunín. The Palackého stezka is also classified as moderately difficult. So when comparing them, consider not only the 96- and 14-kilometre distances, but also the loop format and difficulty rating.
Church and memorials
The Church of St. Martin is the oldest monument in Šenov u Nového Jičína and dates from the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. It is occasionally open on Thursdays and Sundays during services. If you would like to see the interior, check access arrangements in advance before firmly planning your visit.
The memorial to the victims of the First and Second World Wars was created by Franz Barwig, an honorary citizen of Šenov u Nového Jičína. The chapel also has a dated history: it was reconstructed in 1989 and ceremonially dedicated to the Virgin Mary in May 1991. The town’s history thus brings together medieval architecture, remembrance of two world wars, and the reconstruction and dedication of a chapel at the end of the 20th century.
Bannerova studánka and the landscape
The Bannerova studánka spring rises near the Salaš Hotel in Šenov u Nového Jičína. The “Po stopách generála Laudona” educational trail leads to the spring in the town. A nearby forest offers views of the surrounding landscape. So if you are choosing a nature-themed visit, you can combine a specific destination on the trail with views of the surrounding area.
Poodří is also part of the area’s landscape: the Poodří Protected Landscape Area and the eponymous important bird area extend into the northwestern tip of Šenov u Nového Jičína’s territory. Both protected areas are therefore connected to this part of the town’s territory.
Educational trail, bus connection and travel dates
The regular bus service between Nový Jičín and Kunín can be used for all or part of the “Po stopách generála Laudona” educational trail. Check the service before travelling if you plan to use it. This will help you decide whether to include the whole trail or just part of it in your plans.
The Šenovský škrpál community festival takes place every year in August. If you would like to combine your trip with the festival, the month provides a clear guide when choosing your travel dates.
