In Kateřinice, different travel interests take centre stage: scenic trails, local history and recreation by the water. The Trnávka stream flows through the Kateřinice valley. For planning your visit, it helps to distinguish between the main attractions: Kamenný, the former water castle and the reservoir.

Hiking and Views at Kamenný

Several trails lead up Kamenný Hill, from where you can enjoy views of the Beskydy Mountains. The hill also offers one of the most beautiful walks, with views of the surrounding countryside. If you’re exploring on foot, you can choose from several trails and make the viewpoint a specific destination. This lets you tailor your outing to what interests you most: the trail itself or the view from above.

Recreation at the Reservoir

The Kateřinice reservoir is used for recreational sports and fishing all year round. It is also a recreational area offering opportunities for fishing and swimming, as well as a natural swimming spot. This gives you a choice of different activities for your outing: trails and views at Kamenný or activities by the water. When planning your time in Kateřinice, you can base your choice on these specific interests without combining them into a single theme for your outing.

Castle History and Architectural Remains

The original water castle in Kateřinice was converted into a Baroque chateau shortly after 1698 under Maxmilián and Václav Harasovský. Late Gothic stone vaulted cellars and an old stone well remain from the water castle. The well is 1.2 metres in diameter and 7 metres deep. The former chateau now serves as a family home and is privately owned. If you are considering visiting the interior, check access in advance.

Cycling Route No. 6134 passes through Kateřinice, runs from Příbor to Stará Ves nad Ondřejnicí and is 12 km long. The Krakow–Moravia–Vienna Greenways cycling route also passes through the village; it is part of the Castles and Nature of Poodří circuit. The Kravařsko circuit also passes through Kateřinice. For choosing a ride, Route 6134 has a specific length and two endpoints. Greenways is linked to a named circuit, while Kravařsko itself can be described as a circuit that passes through the village.

Traditions and Events

The local Krmáš, also known as Posvícení, is celebrated regularly on the first Sunday after All Souls’ Day and is usually accompanied by a dance event. If you are planning your trip around this festival, check the specific date for the year in question. The Trailový běh is also one of the popular and frequently attended events in Kateřinice. If you are travelling specifically to attend an event, it is advisable to check the current date in advance.
