Accommodation in Mošnov
Get to know Mošnov through its settlement history, the Lubina River, the Church of St. Margaret and several cycling connections. Its documented mention in 1367 provides an early historical reference; the various settlement names explain how separate places became one municipality. The church’s architecture, local event dates and the location of the Poodří Protected Landscape Area northwest of the village also help put it in context.
Local history and the Lubina River
Mošnov was first mentioned in written records in 1367. The settlement developed on the right bank of the Lubina River, while Mošnovec emerged on the left bank. These opposite banks provide a clear geographical framework for the area’s early history: Mošnov and Mošnovec were initially two settlements whose development was tied to the same river.
Engeswald was another settlement name. German colonists founded this place; later, Engeswald, Mošnov and Mošnovec merged to form one municipality. This chronology links the first documented mention with several settlement centers and their later unification. The year, riverbanks and formation of the municipality thus offer distinct points of reference for understanding the area’s history.
Church of St. Margaret
The Church of St. Margaret was built in 1807 and is considered a work of neoclassical religious architecture of regional importance. It is a masonry, single-nave church, with a prismatic tower projecting from the façade. “Single-nave” describes a layout with one nave, while the projecting tower is a distinct exterior feature. The construction date, layout and façade design therefore provide three different points of reference for understanding the building’s architecture.
Events with specific dates
A municipal retrospective from 2023 describes Koštovačka as a contest for the best homemade schnapps. In the 2026 events calendar, it was listed for March 6 at the fire station, organized by firefighters. The calendar listed the Gulášfest, organized by the municipality of Mošnov, for June 6 at the sports field; Mošnovská pouť, organized by the parish, was scheduled for July 19 at the church. These three dates in 2026 have now passed. If you are planning for a later date, check the events calendar in effect at that time.
River, protected area and cycling
The Lubina River also helps define the area’s present-day setting: it flows through Mošnov, which extends along both banks. The nearby Poodří Protected Landscape Area lies to the northwest.
A signposted cycling route passes through Mošnov; another route runs south from the village via Příbor to Kopřivnice. From Mošnov, you can also access the signposted Jantarová stezka, which runs from Krakow through Moravia to Vienna. These routes range from a path through the village to named destinations in the south and a broader corridor. Check the current signs locally before setting out.
