Hurka: Chapel of St. Anne and Cycling Routes
Accommodation in Hurka
Visitors considering Hurka as a destination can get to know the place through several specific themes: the Chapel of St. Anne, the written history of the village, two cycling routes that pass through Hurka, as well as a stream and a forest. Cultural and social events organised each year add to these themes. When planning your trip, you can choose a focus based on your interests: architectural history, cycling or an event date each offer a different perspective on Hurka.
Chapel and Local History
In the centre of Hurka, at house No. 8, stands the Chapel of St. Anne, the village’s recognised cultural landmark. The brick building dates from 1851 and reflects the continued use of Baroque architectural forms in a rural setting in the 19th century. The first reliable written mention of Hurka dates from 1383. The two dates refer to different historical points of reference: 1383 to the written mention, and 1851 to the construction of the chapel.
Stream and Forest in Hurka
A stream flows through Hurka, called Vlčnovka in its upper reaches and Bernatický potok in its lower reaches; Teplá is also a name in common use. All three names refer to the same watercourse. The Horecký les forest extends over part of Hurka’s area. Thus, a stream flowing through the village and a forest area occupying part of its territory are distinct landscape features.
Cycling Routes with Different Highlights
Two cycling routes pass through Hurka. Easy cycling route No. 503 Odersko is 17.5 km long and runs from StarĂ˝ JiÄŤĂn via Hurka and JesenĂk nad Odrou. The Kolem JesenĂku cycling route also passes through Hurka and features an illustrated dictionary of the Moravian-Silesian dialect by Radek Leskovjan. The routes differ in their special features: route No. 503 has a specified length and difficulty level, while Kolem JesenĂku combines cycling with a linguistic and cultural feature. You can therefore decide whether a defined route length or the dialect dictionary is more relevant to your interests.
Events and Practical Information
Hurka’s local committee organises numerous cultural and social events each year together with local associations. As dates and programmes may vary, check what is scheduled during your travel period before your trip.
