Oborná combines local history with the Skalka nature area and trails in the Nízký Jeseník. Depending on whether you are interested in historical connections, municipal events or outdoor activities, you will find different points of interest for your stay.

Local History and Landmarks

Oborná was first mentioned in 1405. The historical names Spillenberg and Spillendorf originally meant a watchtower and a guard post, respectively. The interpretations of the names therefore point to two related but distinct ideas: a structure and a guard post. The Church of the Most Holy Trinity is Oborná’s dominant landmark. During your stay, you can explore an early historical mention, the meanings of the historical names and a prominent landmark as distinct points of interest.

Recreation in the Skalka Nature Area

The Skalka nature area offers active and passive recreation for all generations. At the heart of its sports facilities is a floodlit multi-purpose court for netball, badminton, volleyball and ball games. There is also a music stage, four shelters, an in-ground trampoline, a Russian skittles game and a maze. Benches and tables, waste bins, a bicycle rack and an information board complete the facilities. Sports, play and places to relax are all available in the same location. If a particular facility is important for your visit, check its condition on site.

Events and Local Traditions

Oborná regularly holds Children’s Day in the Skalka area. Raising the community’s Maypole is a long-standing tradition. Other parts of community life include the Dožinky harvest festival and a St. Nicholas celebration featuring devil figures. Children’s Day is held in the Skalka area; the other customs are associated with life in the Oborná community. If you are planning to travel for a particular event, check the dates for your travel period.

Hiking Trails and Landscape

Oborná is located in the Nízký Jeseník mountain range. Extensive forests stretch north and east of the village. A green-marked hiking trail runs through the southern part of Oborná, and a local cycling route also passes through the village. Check the signs on site; for the hiking trail, you should also take current markings and trail conditions into account.

Nearby, a green hiking trail runs via Bruntál to Uhlířský vrch, which rises to 672 m. A centuries-old avenue of lime trees lines the path to the summit; a small church stands at the top, and the protected Uhlířský vrch Natural Monument area surrounds it. Check the route and access conditions for the summit area on site. The green-marked hiking trail through the southern part runs within Oborná; the route via Bruntál to Uhlířský vrch, by contrast, leads into the surrounding area.
