Razová lies on the left bank of the Slezská Harta Dam. Geological features, traces of technological history and local history give your stay different points of interest. If you are looking for a hotel in Razová, you can decide whether you would like to get to know the area mainly through the lakeside landscape, the Razovské tufity or its history.

Lakeside location and geological features

The Slezská Harta Dam offers opportunities for swimming. If you plan to swim, you can make the body of water part of your stay and choose a specific swimming spot for the day. This gives you the option of spending time by the water as well as visiting local attractions.

The Razovské tufity outcrop is 12 m thick and consists of pyroclastic sediments. “Pyroclastic” refers to material of volcanic origin. The sediments were probably deposited in the bay of a lake that existed temporarily, during volcanic activity at Velký Roudný at the end of the Tertiary or the beginning of the Quaternary. This geological interpretation thus links a particular rock deposit to a possible depositional environment and a limited period of time.

Near Razová, thermophilic grassland habitats have developed on the old quarry walls of the Razovské tufity. They are home to heat-loving plant species that do not occur elsewhere in the surrounding area. Volcanic tuffites were also quarried in two sandstone quarries near Razová and processed into decorative stone. The quarry setting can therefore be viewed from two perspectives: as a site where the rock was used and as a habitat on the old walls.

Technological heritage and local history

The Vápenná pec is about 2 km from Razová in the direction of Leskovec and was built in 1912 for lime burning. It was opened to the public in 2001 and is now a technical monument. The construction date, its later opening and its current monument status mark different stages in the history of the site. If you are planning a visit, check current access arrangements in advance.

The earliest surviving written records of Razová date from 1288, placing the written record of the village in the 13th century. Another local point of interest is the Památná lípa: it was designated a protected tree in 2005, and its estimated age is 200 years. The dates refer to different facts: 2005 is the year of its designation, while 200 years is its estimated age. Alongside the history of technology, these landmarks offer a glimpse of local history and nature.

Walks and getting there

The Vápenná pec nature trail begins on the outskirts of Razová, at a bay on the left bank. This provides a specific starting point when planning a walk. The combination of the trailhead and the lakeside location gives you a clear landmark if you would like to explore the area on foot.
