If you value castle history and local monuments when choosing a travel destination, Jezdkovice offers tangible points of interest. In the town, you can distinguish between architectural history, religious monuments and memorials to historical events. The nearby Nový Dvůr Arboretum adds another perspective with its themed plantings and exhibitions.

Castle History in Two Building Phases

Jezdkovice Castle was built in 1618–1619 in the Late Renaissance style. After the death of its first builder, it was remodelled in the Baroque style. Its architectural history therefore comprises two distinct periods: construction was followed by a later remodelling, so the castle cannot be described in terms of just one style. It is protected as a cultural monument under Czech registration number 25000/8-1395. The ministerial decision concerning its protection is dated 19 June 2007. The construction date, remodelling and protected status offer different points of reference for placing the castle’s history in context.

Memorial in Front of the Municipal Office

The memorial to the fallen of the First World War was ceremonially unveiled and consecrated in front of the municipal office on 11 June 1921. At this memorial site, the occasion and location are closely linked to the date. This places it in a different period from the construction of the castle and draws attention to another chapter in the town’s history.

Chapel and Boží muka

The Chapel of Christ the King was built in 1927. An older religious monument is the Boží muka, dating from 1853. The time separating the two construction dates helps distinguish these religious landmarks: the chapel dates from the 20th century, while the Boží muka dates from the 19th century. The Boží muka stands on a rise above Jezdkovice, beside a field track towards Nový Dvůr. This precise location places the small monument in its own local context without conflating it with the castle or the chapel.

Castle Park: Restoration and Use

The restoration of Jezdkovice Castle Park between 2009 and 2011 included renovated paths and stone walls with terraces. The park is used for cultural events and recreation by children and young people. Two different aspects are therefore relevant: the restoration describes construction work carried out over a completed period, while the stated use encompasses cultural and recreational purposes. Both its designed features and its use are therefore relevant to understanding the castle park.

The Nearby Nový Dvůr Arboretum

The nearby Nový Dvůr Arboretum is a dendrological garden in Nový Dvůr, a district of the municipality of Stěbořice. Its themed plantings include North American forests and prairies, Siberia, a Japanese garden and plants from the Himalayas. Regular exhibitions complement its horticultural offerings. The range of themes provides a different focus from the architectural and memorial history of Jezdkovice: here, plantings from various regions and garden traditions take centre stage. The geographical distinction is useful when choosing destinations: the castle and memorial sites are in Jezdkovice, while the arboretum is in Nový Dvůr.
