There are several ways to explore Horní Domaslavice during a stay: the history of the Parish Church of St. James the Greater, other places of remembrance, the nature trail at Mořské oko and two cycling routes that run through the municipality. If you are looking for a destination with architectural and local history, the churches and historic markers offer concrete insights. The landscape and cycling provide different points of focus for your plans.

The Parish Church of St. James the Greater

The Parish Church of St. James the Greater is a late Baroque building constructed between 1739 and 1745. Its history also includes a turning point in 1892: on August 25, the church and parish buildings burned down. A new parish and church were built in 1893, and the tower was restored. The church’s appearance from that time has been preserved to this day.

Its designation as a cultural monument is also part of the building’s history. In 1999, the Parish Church was declared a cultural monument by a decision of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. The construction, fire and rebuilding mark different periods: the late Baroque building dates to the 18th century, while the events of 1892 and 1893 shaped its later architectural history.

Chapel, cross and the history of the chateau

The early date associated with the Chapel of St. Anne should be understood as a tradition: its origins are traced back to 1654. The chapel later also served as a crypt. This historical account differs from the specific construction dates given for the Parish Church. Those interested in religious buildings will find two different forms of local history here—a chapel with a traditional date and a parish church with a stated construction period and documented later changes.

Another place of remembrance is the cross near Vidíkov. The year 1863 is inscribed on the cross. It is presumed to commemorate the entrance to the cemetery at the site of the municipality’s first wooden church, which no longer survives. This interpretation remains a supposition. The chateau of Horní Domaslavice is also part of the town’s history: it later disappeared and was gradually dismantled. It is therefore a historical reference, not a chateau that survives today.

Nature trail, Mořské oko and cycling routes

Mořské oko is one of the five stops on the nature trail in Horní Domaslavice and an important protected landscape feature. If its current protection status matters to your plans, check it before your visit. The nature trail is easily accessible by bus and car; parking is available at the entrance by the Church of St. James the Greater. As access and parking conditions can change, we recommend checking the latest information before you travel.

There are two named routes for planning a cycling trip: the well-maintained regional cycle route 6005 and local cycle route 6163 run through Horní Domaslavice. The routes have different names and classifications; both pass through the municipality. Together with the nature trail, they offer different options for a stay: the trail leads to its five stops, while the cycle routes are for cycling through the area.

The town’s history is not limited to a single building. At the Parish Church, you can distinguish its construction and rebuilding; the Chapel of St. Anne is associated with local tradition, and the cross near Vidíkov links a date with a cautiously worded historical interpretation. Mořské oko adds a landscape stop to these themes. When planning your trip, you can decide whether church and local history, the nature trail or cycling is your main focus.
