Hrádek Nad Olší: Hiking, Nature and Local History
Accommodation in Hrádek Nad Olší
Hrádek Nad Olší brings together several themes for planning your trip: a named hiking trail, nature watching in the Girov riparian forest, the Olše Canyon and traces of local history. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first consider whether hiking, landscapes and wildlife, or historical traces should be the focus of your stay. The sights and activities offer different starting points for your plans.
Hiking and marked trails
The Hrádek–Chata Hrádek–Filipka hiking trail is 4.8 km long and has an elevation gain of 386 m. Its length and elevation gain give you two concrete figures to help you plan this hike. The marked trail network in Hrádek is used by hikers and cyclists, as well as by cross-country skiers in winter. This means that local activities centre on both a specifically named hiking route and a trail network with several stated uses.
Nature in the Girov riparian forest and along the Olše
The educational trail in the Girov riparian forest has a raised, covered platform for observing the landscape and wildlife, especially birds. The trail also has three information panels, two interactive learning stations and five forest benches. Birdwatching is specifically highlighted; the panels and learning stations add information and interactive learning to the natural setting.
The Olše Canyon in Hrádek is about 1 km long and about 10 m deep. It serves as a starting point for water tours on the Olše. Water conditions and suitability may vary; check the conditions before planning a tour. This makes nature watching along the educational trail and a possible water tour two distinct focuses for a trip.
Traces of history
The remains of the medieval fortification of Zómczysko include a damaged central core and a disrupted neck ditch. The small castle was intended to watch over a trade route from Hungary through the Jablunkov Pass to Silesia. Its surviving structures and historical purpose connect the site with the history of this trade route.
The Hrádek Museum and Information Centre is located in Hrádek. It displays a variety of everyday objects used by earlier generations in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Unlike the medieval fortification, the focus here is on everyday items. The museum is located at Hrádek 115, next to the leisure activity centre; visits should preferably be arranged in advance.
Another historical term is “hrádecký rynik”: a three-legged metal cauldron once used in the fields to heat food.
Filipka and event dates
At the summit of Filipka, a sandstone block marks the point where the boundaries of Hrádek, Nýdek and Návsí meet. It was placed at the actual boundary point in 1997. The monument connects a specific landscape feature with the boundary between the three municipalities.
Events can also play a role in planning your trip: the traditional “Běh Hrádkem” run reached its 30th edition in 2026. The fifth edition of the GULÁŠFEST goulash festival was announced for 2026 in Belko.
