Vysoká nad Labem combines cycling along the Labská stezka with riverside scenery, local history and sports. Local cycling routes, historic memorial sites and the facilities at the sports complex offer different starting points for planning your visit.

Cycling, Riverside Scenery and Milíř

Vysoká nad Labem lies along the “Labská stezka” cycle route. The section between Vysoká nad Labem and Smiřice is flat and offers views of the river and peaceful natural surroundings. The confluence of the Labe and Orlice rivers is also among the sights described along this route. The landscape around Vysoká nad Labem combines mixed and pine forests with the Labe floodplain.

At 284.5 metres above sea level, Milíř Hill is the highest point in the wide surrounding area. The Milíř observation tower is 31 metres high and has a hexagonal viewing platform at a height of 27 metres. However, there is an important restriction: the tower is closed until further notice. The closure is due to its technical condition; reconstruction was planned for summer 2026. Before visiting, check whether it is still closed.

Bus routes 18 and 20 connect Vysoká nad Labem with Hradec Králové. From the observation tower, it is about 200 metres to the Vysoká nad Labem terminus. As routes and timetables may change, check the connection before travelling. This allows you to include the journey in your plans without assuming that the closed tower is currently accessible as a visitor attraction.

Opatovický Canal and Memorial Sites

The Opatovický Canal is located at Opatovický splav. It was built in 1513 and is 35 kilometres long. Over time, 32 mills were built along it. If you explore the local history, the canal’s long milling history adds a different historical focus to the memorial sites.

Local history also includes two memorials. A plaque commemorates the parachute group BARIUM’s landing on 3 April 1944; it was unveiled on 17 October 1993. A monument funded by the municipality was erected at the site of the tragedy in 1947, and the events are regularly commemorated there.

Sports Complex and Practical Planning

The Vysoká nad Labem sports complex includes a grass football pitch, a beach volleyball court, a skatepark and a workout area. Use of the sports facilities is subject to a fee, and reservations are made electronically. Facilities, prices and booking procedures may change; check these conditions before your visit. This will help you align a planned sporting visit with the applicable use and reservation requirements.

When choosing a hotel, you can use your interests as a guide: cycling and riverside scenery, local history or sporting activities.
