Kosičky: Třesický Pond and Local History
Accommodation in Kosičky
Kosičky lies northeast of Chlumec nad Cidlinou on the right bank of the Bystřice. Třesický Pond, the landscape along its shores, and several traces of local history offer concrete starting points for choosing a destination. When planning, consider whether you are most interested in wetlands and birdlife, rural architectural history, or a route linking several places.
Nature at Třesický Pond
Třesický Pond covers 70 hectares and was created before 1467. Its area gives an idea of the scale of the body of water, while its early creation date points to its history. In the southern to western part of Třesický Pond, refuges with varied shoreline vegetation have been preserved, providing habitat for several specially protected bird species. The meadows around the pond are regularly used for breeding by the critically endangered black-tailed godwit (Limosa limosa) and the corn bunting (Miliaria calandra).
Local History and Architectural Heritage
One specific event in the town’s history was the discovery of a coin hoard in 1936: during repairs to an arcade, 171 coins dating from the time of George of Poděbrady and Vladislaus II came to light; the find was taken to a museum. The medieval and early modern town center is also an area with documented or reasonably suspected archaeological finds. Thus, alongside a find with a specific date, there is also archaeological evidence relating to a wider area of the town.
Until the end of the 19th century, three wooden mills stood on the Bystřice in Kosičky: Divoký, Na hrázi, and U mostku. Hrázka in Luhy is recorded as the last surviving mill on the Bystřice. Farmstead No. 46 in Kosičky is a well-preserved, high-quality example of a small agricultural farmstead from the second half of the 19th century. It was further modified at the beginning of the 20th century and preserved as a coherent ensemble with a uniform façade design. The ensemble character links the preservation of the farmstead with its uniform façade; the later modifications mark a further phase of construction.
The Spring and Planning an Excursion
A spring that remains accessible is located at the former site of Svatojánské Lázně. This stop is distinct from the nature attractions at the pond and adds the former spa to the area’s local history.
