For a stay in Lubno, local history and trails are key points of interest. Monuments in the village commemorate various historical events; a red-marked hiking trail reaches the edge of the village and continues to Nechanice. Hrádek u Nechanic Chateau offers a separate cultural attraction, with its romantic Windsor Gothic architecture, landscaped park, and several tour routes.

Local History: From Fortress to Monument

In Lubno’s early history, a fortress stood there. The now-vanished fortified site was on the northeastern edge of the village by the Bystřice, before the stream was regulated. On the opposite, northern bank of the Bystřice lies the Vyšehrad site, which is associated with the former fortress. Today, meadows cover the area; no visible traces of the structure remain in the terrain.

Before 1913, archaeologists J. L. Píč and L. Domečka found fragments of pottery from an old settlement at Vyšehrad. This is interpreted either as a vanished early Slavic settlement or as the original location of, or part of, Lubno. The two possibilities leave an open question in local history, rather than assigning Vyšehrad definitively to a single settlement history.

A monument in the center of Lubno commemorates the victims of the 1866 battle. A stone bell tower with a crucifixion monument stands at the bend toward Dolní Přím. In front of the former Andrlova hospoda inn is a protected Baroque sandstone statue of Saint John the Baptist with a lamb; an older masonry well stands beside it. The monuments offer different points of interest: they commemorate a wartime event and display religious sculptures in the village.

Hrádek u Nechanic Chateau: Architecture and Tours

The chateau was built between 1839 and 1857 in the style of romantic Windsor Gothic. It served as a residence for the Harrach noble family, where they could receive guests and host events. Its history thus stands alongside that of Lubno’s former fortress, which dates back to the village’s early history and has since vanished. At the chateau, the focus is instead on the surviving building and the rooms that present the life of the nobility.

Several tours are available to visitors. They take you through reception halls, private apartments, and guest rooms; the tours on offer may change. The chateau also has an extensive English landscaped park, which is ideal for a stroll.

Café Anny z Harrachu is in the chateau building near the Chapel of St. Anne. During the season, seating is available indoors and outdoors, and card payments are accepted. If you are planning a visit, check the latest information about the tours and seasonal café offerings in advance.

Hiking and Cycling

The red-marked hiking trail passes through Hrádek and Jehlický vech to the edge of Lubno, then continues to Nechanice. Lubno is a stretch along the edge of the village before the trail continues. In Nechanice, it ends at Štrossovy sady, where there are graves from the 1866 war. Along this route, you will encounter two different links to the history of 1866: the monument in the center of Lubno and the graves at the endpoint in Nechanice. Check the local trail markings before setting out.

A dedicated path for pedestrians and cyclists was built as part of the 2009 reconstruction of the road between Lubno and Nechanice. In the wider Nechanicko region, the landscape is mostly flat, with some gently rolling areas, making it suitable for recreational cycling. These details offer different points of reference for planning your trip: a hiking trail described as continuing to Nechanice, and a regional landscape character relevant to cycling trips.
