Kosice – Linden Avenue, River Landscape and Local History
Accommodation in Kosice
Kosice combines local history with distinctive landscape features. In the center, a state-protected Linden Avenue surrounds the village square; the Bystřice runs along the southern edge, and the wooden Rozhledna Kosice stands in a private park that is open to the public. This gives you several points to consider when planning your trip: historic sites, river scenery, an observation tower and individual events each offer their own highlights. The specific features of the village can help you decide which themes you want to shape your stay in Kosice.
Village Square and River Landscape
The state-protected Linden Avenue surrounds Kosice’s central village square. A monument to the victims of the wars also stands in the square. This brings a protected landscape feature and a memorial together in one central location. At the southern edge, the Bystřice flows through an old riverbed; 200 m farther downstream, a new riverbed runs alongside it. This specific spatial relationship distinguishes the two river courses and provides a clear point of reference in the local landscape.
Observation Tower and Ponds
The wooden Rozhledna Kosice was built in 2017 on a hill formed by dredging the local ponds. The tower is at the far end of a relatively large private park that is open to the public and has two ponds. The year it was built, the hill’s formation and the park landscape together create a connection to the village. As the park is private, check the access conditions before your visit.
Local History and Memorial Sites
Kosice was first mentioned in 1315. On the grounds of house no. 24, the circular site of a former wooden water fortress has been preserved. Kosice is also home to a 19th-century stone cross. The cemetery chapel was renovated in 2008; its new bell was consecrated on October 23, 2010. The renovation and bell consecration provide two separate points of reference in time. Together, these features reveal different aspects of local history: an early mention, a preserved site, and specific memorials and buildings.
