Světí brings together connections to water and landscape with architectural and local history. These include the Rybník Mlýnek pond on the Melounka stream, the “Život ve vodě, lese a na poli” nature trail and the Church of St. Andrew. If you are looking for hotels in Světí, this mix of themes may influence your choice of destination: would you like your travel plans to focus more on landscape and water, architecture or historical context? Local examples range from an uncertain account of how a pond may have originated to the precisely dated protected status of a church.

Water, landscape and regional history

The Rybník Mlýnek pond lies south of Světí on the Melounka stream. A former manorial mill is associated with it. According to local tradition, the pond may have been created in the second half of the 17th century in connection with the construction of this mill. This is a possible date range, not a securely established year of construction. Thus, the specific location of the pond in relation to the stream sits alongside only a possible explanation of how it originated.

Světí lies within the “Areál bojiště bitvy u Hradce Králové” Landscape Heritage Zone. It was designated by Decree No. 208/1996 Coll. of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic on 1 July 1996. Světí is also part of the “Microregion of Municipalities in the 1866 Heritage Zone.” It comprises ten municipalities that were most severely affected by the decisive battle of the 1866 war. This makes it possible to consider local history both through individual buildings and in the context of the regional heritage zone.

Nature trail with information stations and benches

The “Život ve vodě, lese a na poli” nature trail was officially opened on 27 September 2014 in the Na Panně area of Světí. Its name refers to water, forest and field as its themes. The trail has five information stations, three of which also have benches. An insect hotel was installed near the last information board. If you plan to visit the trail, check in advance whether it is accessible. This will help you consider it as a destination in its own right, alongside the architectural and settlement features of the village.

Church of St. Andrew and the village centre

The Church of St. Andrew has been protected as an immovable cultural monument since 3 May 1958. It is an east-facing, single-nave building: the nave is rectangular, the narrower presbytery ends in a semicircle, and a square tower stands at the western end. These features describe different parts of the church: the nave as the main space, the presbytery as the narrower end, and the tower on the west side. Its basic layout, ending and tower are all important for understanding the architecture. The medieval and modern village centre also has its own designation: “13-22-17/31 Světí – středověké a novověké jádro obce I”.

Early settlement traces and the chapel at Zavadilka

People lived in Světí as early as the Late Bronze Age, and settlement pits have survived from this period. These early settlement traces add a very ancient layer to the later architectural and heritage connections. The Chapel of the Holy Family stands in the settlement of Zavadilka. It depicts the Holy Family’s return from Egypt to their homeland. According to the inscription, Josef and Anna Slívkovi had the chapel built in 1845. Bronze Age settlement traces thus stand alongside a chapel with a recorded subject, named patrons and year of construction.
