Račice nad Trotinou combines rivers and rolling hills with a local history dating back to the Middle Ages. The landscape, historic buildings and memorial sites can offer different ways to shape your stay. The Trotina flows through Račice nad Trotinou from north to south. At the start of the cadastral area, the Hustířanka flows into the Trotina.

River Landscape and Historical Context

The hilly landscape around Račice nad Trotinou offers, among other things, views of the Giant Mountains. Part of the town lies within the protected heritage zone of the Battle of Hradec Králové. This designation applies to part of Račice, not to the entire town as a whole. Together, the course of the river, the rolling hills and the historical connections provide different themes around which to plan your stay.

Račice nad Trotinou was founded and settled in 1222, together with other communities, by Opatovice Monastery. Another source gives 1366 as the year of its first written mention. These dates refer to different claims: 1222 to the founding and settlement, and 1366 to the written mention. The town’s bell tower dates from 1848 and was built after the abolition of compulsory labour.

Local History in Buildings

The history of the school also provides a chronological reference: the local school was founded in 1817, and classes were held there until 1967. The school building is considered an important cultural property. The agricultural farmstead at No. 59 and the gate of the house at No. 47 are also protected as immovable cultural monuments. The cross on the village green in front of the municipal office is considered a monument of local significance. These traces have different connections, from former school activities to individual buildings and a prominent landmark on the village green.

Memorial Sites and Nature Trail

A monument to the victims of the First World War is located in the cadastral area. A sandstone pyramid commemorates 12 soldiers of the Austrian 40th Infantry Regiment. On Horka Hill above Račice nad Trotinou lies the grave of Austrian Captain Weil von Weilenfeld, inventory number 2. In the immediate vicinity of a monument in Horka, 15 men are buried, along with the excavated remains of another man found at Hořiněves. Each of these sites and monuments has a specific commemorative significance.

The 25-kilometre “Josefov–Smiřice–Chlum 1866” nature trail is of moderate difficulty. Račice nad Trotinou is its seventh stop; Horka follows as the eighth stop, 0.6 kilometres farther on. The information sign is located on the slope beyond the railway line. The trail is intended for pedestrians, wheelchair users and cyclists. However, it is challenging for wheelchair users because it runs along a main road. This limitation is important when choosing a route; the listed user groups do not mean that the trail is equally suitable for everyone.

Cultural Events and Your Stay

Račice nad Trotinou has an inn with a function room where various cultural events are held. If events are relevant to your travel plans, use a specific date as a guide and check the announced dates. When choosing a hotel, you can also consider whether you want to focus your stay primarily on the landscape, local history or memorial sites. These different themes reflect the rivers, buildings and stops described above, but do not indicate a particular type of hotel or amenities.
