If you are looking for a hotel in Dobřenice, the town’s history can be a starting point for planning your trip. The castle and the Church of St. Clement represent different chapters in the history of architecture; a chapel, a statue and a family crypt add to the selection. There is also an annual cycling event through the Urbanická brázda, which extends beyond the town to the microregion.

Castle and Castle Grounds

Dobřenice Castle was built in Baroque style in 1693 on the site of a former fortress. The reference to the former fortress identifies the location, while 1693 dates the later construction of the castle. As a rural feudal manor house, the castle is part of a complex of farm buildings; its architectural development is particularly complex. Both the site’s history and the development of the manor house are therefore important for understanding its historical context.

The castle grounds include park terraces, a lion gate, stables, a park and the Weinrich family crypt. The ensemble thus comprises the manor house, farm buildings, outdoor areas and a family crypt.

Church of St. Clement

The Church of St. Clement was built in 1739 on the site of a wooden church dating from the 14th century. It is a richly decorated Baroque church in Dobřenice. The Baroque complex dating from 1740 is also considered an example of Baroque architecture and of the design of rural settlements. The two dates refer to different aspects: 1739 to the construction of the church, and 1740 to the complex. The change from the wooden predecessor to the Baroque church makes the building history at the same site easy to follow.

The church cemetery is situated considerably higher than the surrounding terrain. It can be reached from the rectory via an internal staircase and a wrought-iron gate dating from 1913.

Other Historic Buildings

East of Dobřenice stands the Chapel of St. Anne, a Baroque building dating from 1738. At the crossroads toward Syrovátka stands a Baroque statue of St. John of Nepomuk dating from 1729. The statue thus predates the chapel by nine years. The comparison presents two different forms of Baroque architecture: a chapel and a statue at a crossroads.

A much later work is the imposing Löwenstein family crypt in Dobřenice, created by Palouš in 1935–1936. Its date places it considerably later than the Baroque landmarks.

Cycling Event and Practical Information

The cycling event through the Urbanická brázda has been held annually since 2004 at the end of the summer holidays and is part of the wider microregional calendar. If you would like to include the event in your travel plans, check the specific date before arranging your stay around it. There is a public car park near Dobřenice railway station. If you plan to use it on arrival, check whether it will be available when you visit.
