The highlights range from the remains of a water fortress and individual memorial sites to a marked hiking route and cycling routes. This lets you explore local history and route planning as distinct areas of interest.

The Tvrziště and its location

The Nechanice Tvrziště is the remains of a water fortress surrounded by three ramparts and a moat. These features give the archaeological site a clearly defined defensive structure. The Tvrziště lies north of the built-up area, on the right bank of the Bystřice. It is about 200 metres from the northeastern corner of Nechanice’s market square, where the church stands. This makes the square a reference point for locating the site by the river.

Sculptures and a memorial plaque

A memorial plaque was unveiled in 1998 at the site of Jan Křtitel Vaňhal’s birthplace. A column depicting Saint Anne, the Virgin Mary and the infant Jesus stands on Husovo náměstí. It is probably a free-standing copy of an original Baroque stone sculpture by an unknown artist, dating from 1737. Another sculptural group depicts Saint Anne embracing Mary, who carries the infant Jesus on her left arm. The subjects differ: the plaque is linked to a specific biographical site, while the group depicts a religious scene with three figures. The column should also be understood in terms of its probable status as a copy and its connection to the Baroque original.

Memorial sites

The monument to members of the Red Army in Nechanice is a grave beside the wall separating the old cemetery from the new one. It documents events in the region at the end of the Second World War. Several monuments to those killed in the 1866 war stand in Štrossovy sady. These represent different historical contexts: events at the end of the Second World War and the war of 1866. The 1866 war took place before the Second World War.
