Prasek: Hiking, Forest and Local History
Accommodation in Prasek
Prasek combines a green-marked KÄŚT hiking route with the Les Chlum nature trail and several reminders of local history. If you are planning a hotel stay, you can first decide whether a longer hike, a trail focused on nature and history, or the history of the town should be your priority. The hiking route is described by its course and approximate length, while the nature trail is described by its information boards and their topics.
Arrive by bus and plan a hike
Prasek is served by buses of the Integrated Regional Transport system of the Královéhradecký and Pardubický Regions (IREDO) and has four bus stops. If you are travelling by bus, you can check the most suitable stop and connection for your travel date. A green-marked KČT hiking route runs from the bus stop in Prasek via Kunčice to Hrádek u Nechanic Chateau and is approximately 10 kilometres long. This identifies the route’s starting point, an intermediate stop and its destination. The approximate distance gives you a specific guide for planning your day. Unlike the nature trail, this route focuses on a trail leading to a named destination.
Les Chlum Nature Trail
The Les Chlum nature trail leads towards Prasek and provides information on ten boards, mainly about local plant life and the history of the surrounding area. It also leads to a corner of Chlum Forest where a former sand quarry has a small pond. This gives you a different option from the KÄŚT hiking route: Les Chlum is characterised by its information boards and the topics described, while the marked route is defined by its approximate length and the chateau as its destination. This makes it easy to choose between the two trails according to what interests you most.
The history of Prasek
Prasek was first mentioned in 1312. One probable interpretation of the town’s founding is that Prasek originated as a strip-shaped colonisation village on the site of an earlier forest complex. In the 18th century, the town grew with the construction of small houses. These details highlight different periods: the first written mention points to the Middle Ages, the interpretation of the town’s founding is explicitly described as probable, and the small-house development marks a later period of growth. Together, they offer a glimpse into different stages of the settlement’s history.
Church and historic sites
The Neo-Gothic Church of the Sacred Heart of the Lord was built between 1898 and 1900. It is a subsidiary church of the NovĂ˝ BydĹľov parish and stands right beside the road to Zdechovice. A service is held there every other Sunday at 11:15 a.m. The published schedule was updated on 22 December 2025; before your visit, check whether the service is taking place on your travel date.
The Prasek “Chlum” archaeological site represents another layer of history: it includes the remains of fortifications from a hillfort of the Lusatian culture. A partisan memorial stands at the edge of the forest outside Prasek. The archaeological site and memorial add archaeological heritage and remembrance to the story of the town. Local sporting life also includes the TJ Jiskra Prasek sports grounds, where girls and boys can develop their football skills from an early age.
