Mokrovousy lies on the left bank of the Bystřice stream. Nature and local history offer different points of interest for a stay: a European protected area, a route to the 1866 battlefield, archaeological finds and local monuments. A children’s playground was built next to the “Na koupališti” kiosk in 2011.

The Bystřice and its conservation focus

The European protected area EVL CZ0523264 Bystřice was designated in 2004 to protect the thick-shelled river mussel found in the Bystřice. This gives the area’s natural setting a clearly defined focus: a particular mussel species and its presence in this flowing waterway. For nature enthusiasts, this is more specific than a general description of the landscape. The riverside location and the protected-area designation complement each other, but describe different things: the left bank locates Mokrovousy, while the protected area is dedicated to protecting the thick-shelled river mussel in the Bystřice. The town’s relationship with the water can therefore be considered both geographically and in terms of a specific conservation goal.

Historic routes and layers of time

Mokrovousy lies on the 1866 battlefield route between Chlum and Hrádek Castle. This places the town in the context of a broader historical route. Archaeological finds at the “Pod kostelem” site attest to a prehistoric settlement. The route and the archaeological evidence offer different ways of exploring the past: one concerns the 1866 battlefield, the other earlier settlement. This distinction between periods can help orient you if you are interested in the town’s history.

A monument erected in 1928 commemorates eleven citizens of Mokrovousy who fell at the front. It focuses on specific residents and complements the battlefield route’s historical context with a local memorial. The route and the monument therefore have different focuses: one centers on the 1866 battlefield, the other on commemorating eleven citizens. Together with the finds at “Pod kostelem,” several historical periods can be considered as distinct topics.

Religious and technical monuments

The sandstone monument to Saint Anthony of Padua dates from 1745. Harrachovská studna is a technical monument in Mokrovousy. These represent two different aspects of local culture: a religious monument characterized by its material and dedication to a saint, and an object classified as a technical monument. If you are interested in local history, you can distinguish between these categories rather than viewing all monuments as equivalent reminders of the past.

Children’s playground by the kiosk

A children’s playground was built directly next to the “Na koupališti” kiosk in 2011. In summer 2011, seating was available at the “Na koupališti” kiosk from August onward.
