Stěžery offers travelers several distinct points of interest: the Kostel sv. Marka monument ensemble, the architectural history of the chateau, walking and cycling routes, and Pivovar Beránek. Depending on your interests, these topics may be more or less relevant when planning your trip. The specific details range from architectural features to a 28.1-kilometer cycling route.

Church ensemble in the town center

The Kostel sv. Marka complex stands in the town center of Stěžery. It includes a freestanding bell tower in the Moorish style, a cemetery, a statue of Saint Florian, and an entrance to a chateau cellar. “Freestanding” describes the bell tower’s structural independence, while the Moorish style characterizes its design. As a protected monument ensemble, the site also includes the church, bell tower, perimeter wall with gate and smaller entrances, statue, cellar, and the plots of land within the site. The protection therefore applies to an ensemble of several structures and areas, not just the church building.

Chateau and historic buildings

Today’s chateau in Stěžery was created in 1802–1803 by rebuilding and expanding the original fortress. A west wing was added, and both wings were given mansard roofs and an Empire-style appearance. Mansard roof describes the roof form, while Empire style characterizes the chateau’s architectural appearance. A massive two-story granary survives in the chateau complex from the former farmyard. The granary adds a specific link to the estate’s former agricultural operations to the building’s history; it is a different aspect from the transformation of the fortress into the present-day chateau. For an architectural comparison, two distinct influences can be contrasted: the Moorish style of the freestanding bell tower and the mansard roofs and Empire-style appearance of the chateau.

On foot and by bike

The Potkávačka za humny trail offers a walk through the countryside around Stěžery. Along the trail there is an insect hotel and an herb garden; near Stěžírky there are two benches and a swing. The trail thus combines scenery with specific stops: the insect hotel and herb garden offer different ways to engage with nature, while the benches provide a place to sit and the swing is an additional feature near Stěžírky. One cycling option is the Proti proudu času cycling route: it is 28.1 km long and starts and ends at the Stěžery municipal office. When planning, the routes differ in how you travel and in their scope: a walk with nature stops, or a 28.1 km cycling route starting and finishing at the municipal office.

Brewery and dining

Pivovar Beránek in Stěžery brews bottom-fermented beers in the historic premises of a former granary built in 1732. The year refers to the former granary. The brewery has a restaurant where guests can dine and sample the beers right on site.
