Discover Chlivce
Accommodation in Chlivce
Chlivce brings together a protected natural landmark and traces of Czechoslovak fortification history. The Obecní lípa is a historical landmark right in the village; the T-S 19 Turov and T-S 20 “Na Pláni” bunkers belong to the Chlívce line of fortifications. A marked cycling route also passes through Chlivce. When planning your stay, you can consider nature, military history, and cycling as distinct themes.
The Obecní lípa and local history
The Obecní lípa in Chlívce is a protected large-leaved lime tree; it was placed under protection in 2002. It is listed by the Czech Nature Conservation Agency (AOPK). Its trunk circumference is 382 cm, its height is 23 m, and its age is estimated at 170 years.
By the interwar period at the latest, the Zur Linde inn stood beneath the tree. It may have been there earlier. This brings together two distinct historical perspectives at this location: the tree’s official protected status and the former use of an inn directly beneath the lime tree.
Bunkers and fortification history
The T-S 19 Turov infantry bunker is on the road between Stárkov and Červený Kostelec. Together with the T-S 20 “Na Pláni” infantry bunker, it formed the Chlívce line of fortifications. T-S 20 is part of this line at the foot of the Jestřebí Mountains. The two bunkers thus share a historical context but are located in different, specifically named places.
T-S 19 has been open to the public since 2009. On display are reconstructed details, historical photographs, a cutaway model, and a relief map of the area around the bunkers. Check access and the exhibition before your visit.
An exhibition at T-S 20 covers the Czechoslovak legionnaires in Italy, events in Broumovsko in 1938, and Jiří Potůček, the radio operator of the SILVER A paratroop group. Exhibition content may change. The Uzávěr Chlívce educational trail provides further information on regional fortification history, including surviving remains of Czechoslovak border fortifications built before the Second World War in the Hronov area.
Walking trail and cycling route
T-S 20 is above Chlívce on a green-marked walking trail, about 100 m from the road to Červený Kostelec. The location, trail marking, and approximate distance from the road provide different reference points for planning a visit to the bunker.
KČT cycling route No. 4304 runs from Krkavčina via Chlívce and Jívka II to Stárkov. It is 8.5 km long and marked in white. The route therefore offers a different way to experience Chlivce than the individual historical sites: the village lies on a route with named start and end points and intermediate places.
The green marking on the walking trail near T-S 20 and the white marking of cycling route 4304 refer to different routes. The 8.5 km refers to the entire cycling route from Krkavčina to Stárkov, not just the section in Chlivce. When planning your trip, you can therefore distinguish between the walking trail by the bunker and the cycling route that passes through several places.
