Pekov combines hilly terrain with named hiking trails, a cycling route and a local cultural landmark, the Chapel of Panny Marie Pomocné. You can give these different consideration when planning your trip: the elevation and protected landscape area set the scene for the surrounding countryside, while the routes specify starting points, itineraries and waypoints.

Hilly Terrain and Protected Landscape Area

Pekov’s hilly terrain lies at elevations of around 500 to 694 metres above sea level. The village is also located in the Broumov Protected Landscape Area. These details describe different aspects of the landscape: elevation characterises the terrain, while protected-area status places Pekov within a designated landscape. Together, they provide an initial frame of reference before you explore the individual hiking and cycling routes.

Hiking Trails and Waypoints

Pěkov-Hony is a starting point for hiking trails in the Broumovské stěny. Another specific itinerary is the “Na Hvězdu a Ostaš” route, which passes through Pekov to the junction below Ostaš. Ostaš is an isolated table mountain near Police nad Metují, with expansive views and distinctive rock formations. For orientation, you can distinguish between the named starting point in Pěkov-Hony and the route through the village, which has a waypoint below Ostaš.

Cycling Route with Return to Pasa

KČT cycling route 4001 offers a different kind of trip: it is a 30-kilometre loop called “Vyhlídková cesta” that returns to Pasa (Pěkov). Check the route markings and conditions locally; conditions on hiking trails can also change. The cycling route is defined by its loop, length and return point, while the hiking trails are distinguished by their named starting point or by the route through Pekov to the junction below Ostaš. This makes it possible to compare the trips by mode of transport and specific waypoints.

Local History and the Chapel

Pekov was first mentioned in writing in 1395. Its probable founding, however, is dated to around 1256, during the colonisation of the so-called polický újezd. The dates refer to different historical milestones: 1256 is the probable time of its founding, while 1395 is the year of its first written mention. This distinction helps avoid equating the village’s early origins with its first written record.

The Chapel of Panny Marie Pomocné is located in Pekov. It has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since January 2001. Alongside the village’s historical dates, this adds a specific building with its own dated protected status. The probable founding, first written mention and protection of the chapel represent different milestones in the village’s history. Pekov therefore offers both a connection to its early history and a named cultural monument.
