Jetřichov lies in the Broumov Highlands geomorphological unit. The entire municipality is part of the Broumovsko Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Broumovsko). For travelers, the Laudon Chapel, the trails above and through Jetřichov, and the preserved farm buildings reveal different sides of the place; the Jetřichovský písník geological outcrop adds another dimension nearby.

Landscape and Location

Jetřichov lies in the Broumov Highlands geomorphological unit, while the Laudon Chapel stands on a low hill above the village, in the Broumov Basin. The approach offers views of the mountains that border the Broumovsko region. The two landscape names refer to different geographical areas: the geomorphological unit for Jetřichov and the basin for the chapel’s location.

The waterways are also located in different parts of the municipality. The Stěnava flows through the northern part of Jetřichov municipality; its right tributary, the Jetřichovský potok, forms the municipality’s central axis. This distinguishes the river’s course in the north from the watercourse that serves as the municipality’s axis.

Laudon Chapel and Hiking Trails

The Laudon Chapel is dedicated to the Holy Trinity. A red-marked hiking trail leads to it from the direction of Broumov. For trip planning, both the direction of approach and the viewpoint above Jetřichov are relevant.

The Cesta Rájem hiking trail leads to the remains of the 18th-century Laudon Chapel above Jetřichov, then descends into the village along a field path. The route also crosses the main Broumov–Meziměstí road and continues to the upper end of Jetřichov. While the red-marked trail is described by its direction from Broumov, this information about the Cesta Rájem also indicates how it continues into the village.

Architectural History in Jetřichov

Farm complex No. 56 is the only registered immovable monument in Jetřichov. It consists of a residential building, a gate, a shed, a barn, a former retirement home for farm workers, and a bridge with a statue. The preserved agricultural buildings were constructed toward the end of the 18th century and later adapted for various purposes. The complex is therefore notable not only for a single building but also for the different elements of the farmstead.

The place known as Bělidlo originated as an agricultural farmstead; a small dye works was later established there. Together with the history of the farm complex, this development illustrates two different aspects of the place’s history: preserved agricultural buildings and the later use of a farmstead for a small dye works.

Geology Near Jetřichov

The Jetřichovský písník is an outcrop of weathered Triassic sandstones in a sand pit near Jetřichov. Its distinctive feature is the continuous alternation of sandstone layers and layers of reddish bog iron ore. Unlike the architectural history of the village, the focus here is on rock and stratification. As sand is still being extracted, educational and study visits must be arranged with the sand pit operator.

When looking for a hotel in Jetřichov, you can compare the focus of your trip: trails and architectural history in the village, or geology at the nearby outcrop.
